News from Our Board of Governors

The managers, Sarah Newton & David Sheppard,  have moved in!  They took no time in getting acclimated and (on Monday alone) met with our house chair, made the menu for Saturday night, coordinated the menu with the secretary for publication, and took a trip to the grocery - all in the first few hours on the clock!

News from Our Club Chairs:

Cheer Chairman, Sue Campbell
This year the cheer will include Yuengling & Michelin and Black Box Chardonnay & Shiraz Wine.

Participation Shirt Chairs, Lissa & David Klueter

Race Participation Shirts Are in the Works! From Lissa Kleuter
The order for the Participation Shirts is in!!  The shirts should be ready by Memorial Day, so after you've raced three races, see me for your shirt.
This process started in February with a planning dinner.  Ed and Beth shared their message ideas with Ron and Barbara, Joni and Ray, and David and me.  Ron was able to take these ideas and prepare a preliminary design for the front and back of the shirt.  I worked with BJ's Custom Creations on the final design and after a few revisions, the proof was approved.  So now we wait!  . . . a nd while we wait, I stuffed the event plaques into envelopes in preparation for the first trophy ceremony in a couple of weeks!

Social Chair, Seth Copley

We still need volunteers for a few events.  Please see the social schedule on the DCLSA website below and reach out to me if you are available for a pitch in host position or to help out with the 4th of July food or games.

Also . . . stay tuned for an exciting new event at the club.
The Annual Doc Savage Memorial Cardboard Boat Race
will be held after lunch on the 4th of July.  Get your design ideas flowing!   There will be races for all ages!   Rules will be posted on our website soon.

Yearbook/Directory Reflections from David Klueter

Preparing the Directory is primarily a coordination exercise.  A look at the Directory Table of Contents identifies all of the folks who contribute:
  • Ed Halley for the Commodore's Message
  • Seth Snider, Kathy Rubel, and Sarah Nill for the Social Calendar
  • The Board, and ultimately Joni Palmer, for the Operating Procedures
  • Sue Wolffe for the Sailing School information
  • Spencer Deakin for the DCYRA President's Message
  • Ray Gauthier for the Sailing Instructions
  • Bruce Spinnenweber, Peter Frey, and Charles Graham for the Race Schedule
  • Dan Spohn for the Patrol Schedule and instructions
  • Greg Shafer for the Off-Lake Regattas
  • Joni Palmer and Ed Halley for the Membership Roster Data
  • Ed Halley, Susan Henry, and Rob Gerlach for the safety info on the back cover
Thank you all for your contributions!  Once all of the input was compiled and proofed (thanks Joni and Ed for catching the "replace all" that backfired!), it was off to April at Mastercraft Printers.  She turned the order around quickly.  So now the Directories are available to you all in the Mug Room.  Be sure to pick up your set the next time you're at the Club!

A big "thank you" to Patty Copeland for a smooth transition and flawless instructions.  Now that I have one edition under my belt, my goal next year is to have the Directory ready for the Spring Meeting.

At our Annual Spring Meeting, Ed Peters did a moving tribute
to members who have passed. Keep their spirit alive as you catch the wind this season.
