LIBRARY BOOKS ARE DUE! May 17 is the due date for books checked out from the Main Stacks by students on or before Sunday, May 12. Books may be renewed once online or by bringing them in physically to the circulation desk if you have exceeded the renewal limit. The new due date is June 28, the last day of the first Summer Term. Click on "Library Account" online at  http://www.luther.edu/library/ , and sign in with your NorseKey to see what you have checked out and when it is due.
Announcements

Free Root Beer Floats Take a break from studying for finals and enjoy a free root beer float on Wednesday May 15 starting at 3:30 p.m. until we run out. Outside the Union (weather permitting, rain location inside) courtesy of Counseling Service and Center for Intercultural Engagement and Student Success.

Servant Grants –  Seniors who are planning on serving as a full-time volunteer for minimal or no compensation next year may be eligible to receive a Servant Grant from Luther College’s student Congregation Council for support. If interested, please email email [email protected]  with a brief description of your placement and the organization you will service next year. Please reply by Sunday, May 19.
 
Baccalaureate Vespers  – a celebration and sending for the class of 2019 will be held at 8:00pm on Saturday, May 25 in Center for Faith and Life, Main Hall. The celebratory worship service includes hymns, choir anthems, prayers and blessing for graduates and their families. Rooted in the college’s Lutheran Christian heritage and our confidence in God’s care for all people of the earth, this ecumenical service includes prayer petitions that celebrate the diversity of religious traditions represented in the graduating class.

The Luther College Visual and Performing Arts Department will host a Commencement exhibition featuring selected works from all of the art senior projects completed this year with a reception at 4 p.m. Saturday, May 25, in the Wigley-Fleming Gallery in Luther's Center for the Arts. The students with artwork included in the exhibition are Samantha Bratland, Joseph Cowan, Ryan Koning, Anh Le, Madeline Skjervold, Max Skrzypek, Annie Stenseth and Casey Weber.

CEPE: Free Coffee For Finals — Need a little extra fuel to get you through finals week? Bring your own reusable coffee cup to the CEPE (Olin 214) for a caffeine fix any time Monday-Thursday of Finals Week, 8:30am-noon.

Farewell and Godspeed Chapel, May 17 — The Luther community is invited to a chapel with prayers of farewell and Godspeed for faculty and staff transitioning from Luther College on Friday, May 17 at 10:30-10:50 a.m. Special music will be provided by Joshua Vorvick, a student Jazz Quartet, and Beautiful Mess.

New Issue of The Chessboard Upcoming : The third issue of The Chessboard will be circulated this week. The Chessboard seeks to stoke campus-wide conversations about contemporary issues. Topics for this issue include: a discussion of how pain can be constructive, a critique of today’s Democratic Party, and a detailed look at the magnitude of immigration to America. Copies will be distributed around campus, particularly in the Union. Feel free to keep a copy and enjoy!

Commissioning Sunday  – Graduating seniors will be recognized and blessed on Sunday, May 19 at the 10 a.m. morning worship, with a special recognition of those who will be pursuing theological education or service in the church and community after graduation. If you will be able to participate in the service, please email  [email protected] . If you know your future plans (even if they are tentative) include that information as well.

As part of the festival celebration "Days of Russian Culture," Luther College's Balalaika Ensemble performs at 7 p.m. Friday, June 7 in The Museum of Russian Art (TMORA) in Minneapolis, MN.
