FEATURED EVENTS: Youth Track Meet
Our elementary Track athletes competed well and had an amazing time at their inaugural meet on Thursday, May 31, at Hare Field. They participated in the 100, 400, long jump, and turbo javelin; increased their knowledge about maintaining healthy lifestyles in Providence Health Systems' Activity Zone; and learned how to stick jump from a U.S. Olympic pole vault trainer. The elementary track program, made possible at six schools through a generous grant from Nike and in-kind support from Providence, has been a definite success with several hundred students participating. We hope to be able to continue and expand the program in the future! graduation week! We are so excited and proud of our graduates for all of the hard work and dedication they've shown to their education over the past thirteen years. A list of graduation ceremony dates, times, and locations is available on our website at

New Bond Website

Please take a moment to check out our new Bond website at www.Hillsboro-Bond.org! It has been redesigned to focus on the work that will be taking place over the course of the next five years. Here, you will be able to see when certain projects are slated to begin, design schematics, pictures and videos of projects that are currently under way, and much more!

Environmental Achievements
|

HSD staff and students have a lot to be proud of when it comes to environmental stewardship! In the U.S. Department of Energy's Better Buildings 2018 progress report, the District was listed among the top 14 school districts and colleges in the country for its energy saving efforts. And in the recently-concluded TREX Recycling Challenge, HSD schools collected 10,831 pounds of film plastic to be recycled into composite lumber products - with two schools earning TREX benches. Finally, because of our schools' remarkable efforts with food scrap collection, HSD will be recognized by the Hillsboro City Council on Tuesday, June 5. Click here

Hillsboro 2035 Community Celebration
|
|
The annual Hillsboro 2035 Community Celebration is taking place during the first Hillsboro Tuesday Night Market of the season on Tuesday, June 12, from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on the Civic Center Plaza. The event gives community members an opportunity to learn more about the progress Lead Partner organizations have made in fulfilling the action items outlined in our Hillsboro 2035 Community Plan. And with a theme of Pirate Palooza, it will also provide lots of fun and engaging activities for children.

Summer Lunch Sites
|
|
In partnership with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, HSD is once again providing
free lunches throughout the summer for youth ages 1-18. The meal distribution sites are at W.L. Henry Elementary School, Shadywood Park, Walnut Street Park, Bicentennial Park, McKinney Elementary School, Shute Park, Montebello Apartments, and Sunset Garden Apartments. Lunches will be served each weekday* between June 20 and Aug. 17, with no service on Wednesday, July 4. (*Note that some sites have a different schedule; please see the flyer for details.)

Free and Reduced-Price School Meals
in 2018-19
|
|
Beginning the next school year, the eligibility for
several HSD schools to serve meals at no cost
to all students expires. This means that families attending Free Orchards, Butternut Creek, Brookwood, Rosedale, Minter Bridge, and Groner will need to pay for meals or apply for meal assistance through the Free and Reduced-priced meal program. Elementary meal prices are $1.75 for breakfast and $2.75 for lunch. Milk can be purchased individually for 50 cents. After July 1, families can apply at their school, the District office, or online at
www.EZMealapp.com.

Virginia Garcia Job Academy
|
|
The Virginia Garcia Memorial Health Center is hosting its 2nd Annual Virginia Garcia Job Academy July 9-13, 2018, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day at the Virginia Garcia Admin building, 3305 NW Aloclek Dr., Hillsboro. The Job Academy is offered free of charge to help students with resume writing, job interview preparation, career exploration, financial and education planning, and more. Lunch is provided. Space is limited and pre-registration is required by contacting Nicole Mayer at [email protected].

Cultural Arts Grant Opportunity
|
|
The Cultural Coalition of Washington County (CCWC) is the re-granting board of the
Oregon Cultural Trust in Washington County. Monies donated to the Cultural Trust come back to the County and are distributed as grants to cultural non-profits per the
Washington County Cultural Plan. Youth access to the arts and supporting cultural and heritage learning are among the goals of the Coalition. If you are interested and have a great idea that will support arts and culture in Washington County, visit the
CCWC website. The online 2019 application process begins in Sept. and closes in early Oct. 2018.
