CommuteSmart NH (CSNH) is hosting a pilot employer-based challenge for the month of June, encouraging businesses, organizations, and municipalities from across the state to adapt their current commuting practices by trying new, more sustainable methods of getting to work. This challenge follows on the heels of CommuteSMART Seacoast's B2B challenge in May, which serves as an excellent model for the CSNH pilot challenge.

The competition is open to all employers in New Hampshire, and teams will compete for awards in the category of Most Sustainable Trips in the following size categories: small business (2-19 employees), medium business (20-99 employees), and large business (100+ employees). An award will also be given for Most Social Media Buzz which will be measured via social media posts which feature the company name, in addition to the hashtag, #SmartCommuteTheRoute. Accepted modes include carpooling, public transportation, walking, bicycling, skateboarding, telecommuting, or any combination of these.

Businesses interested in competing should contact [email protected] , or visit the CommuteSmart NH website ( www.commutesmartnh.org ) to learn more. Businesses are encouraged to appoint a team captain who will administer the challenge. Once a team has been created, employees will be able to make an account, join their team, and log their daily sustainable work trips during the challenge, June 1 - 30.

Incentives for this program, including raffle prizes, will be given to employers, who can then award participating employees. By using these alternate modes of transportation, participants will also save money on gas and increase vehicle life, have a less stressful commute (think reading a book and sipping your coffee on a bus!) and contribute to lowering environmental impacts.

CSNH is a partnership between the state's nine regional planning commissions and specific transit agencies (partners), working in collaboration with other transit providers, state agencies, municipalities, businesses, and public health organizations.
