Superintendent Search Update

On Tuesday, May 7, 2019, the Board of Education continued its due diligence in its search for a new superintendent by meeting in Closed Session at Arcadia Unified School District with sixteen members of the AUSD community about finalist Dr. Jeff Wilson. During several hours of questioning of AUSD Superintendent David Vannasdall, Board Vice President Lori Phillipi, five AUSD principals, several Directors, and several teachers, counselors and Educational Services employees, the Board received unanimous validation that Dr. Wilson is going to be a fantastic leader for the San Marino Unified School District.

Common themes emerged of a personable, hard-working and collaborative leader who is extremely knowledgeable about curriculum and finances and who keeps the focus on what's best for students. In her letter of recommendation provided in support of Dr. Wilson's application, Jan Dickson, a 4th grade teacher and Grievance Chair of the Arcadia Teachers Association, stated in part:

"Dr. Wilson is an exceptional leader who...makes a concerted effort to visit every school site multiple times per year to visit classrooms, talk with students, build rapport with teachers, and learn about the diverse cultures we have in the Arcadia community....In addition to being highly visible across the district and easily accessible to all staff, Dr. Wilson also promotes transparent and open communication...and seeks opportunities to build relationships with parents and the community."

The Board will meet in Closed Session on Tuesday, May 14, to discuss the results of its due diligence, including a comprehensive background check. The Board will vote on the employment of Dr. Wilson during Open Session, and it is expected that Dr. Wilson will be present at the meeting. If approved, Dr. Wilson will begin his employment on July 1, 2019.
