Preparing to serve during our special Teacher Appreciation Week luncheon!
The month of May always stands out during the school year as this is the period when we administer the annual state and district exams as well as celebrate the many achievements of our students and staff with the year beginning to wind down. This all takes place while still building up towards the senior class graduation day later in the month (Class of 2019 graduation is May 24th). This issue highlights some of these special events for the community.

This has been Teacher Appreciation Week here at Oak Ridge and across the USA (pictures herein). As a favor, if there is a teacher or staff member that in your opinion has done a fine job during 2018-2019, please take a moment to write, email, or say thank you for their efforts today or very soon. We have such a terrific group of faculty and support staff at Oak Ridge. They arrive to campus early each school day putting their best foot forward to help educate our Pioneers. A simple email or kindly thank you in passing means the world.

I would also like to remind our community of another important May event coming up on Sunday . . . Mother's Day! In my view, this is one of the most important holidays of the year not only because of all the work our Oak Ridge moms do on behalf of our students in raising them, but also because so many mothers support our high school's work to educate their children either from the home front or through their personal volunteer service.

I hope you enjoy this latest edition and Happy Mother's Day!

With Pioneer Pride,

Ms. Jennifer Bellinger
Principal

Pictured very top and just below: Teacher Appreciation Week at ORHS this week which included a fantastic luncheon and special treats & recognition courtesy of Mr. Norwood and our wonderful N.E.M.P. students (No Excuses Mentoring Program - N.E.M.P.)

Everyone really enjoyed our Teacher Appreciation Week luncheon. This was a wonderful way to remind our educators and staff members just how valuable their roles really are!

N.E.M.P. had their Teacher Appreciation Week surprise themed around the upcoming summer break and a well earned vacation!

2nd Annual Fashion Flow

On the evening of May 3rd, the L.I.F.E. Mentoring Program of Orlando at Oak Ridge High School presented their 2nd Annual ORHS Spring Fashion Show (dubbed Fashion Flow) in the Maxine Risper Auditorium. This year's Fashion Flow included both male and female student models; unlike last year's show which consisted of only male students. With the inclusion of females to the show, the Flow Advisers - Mr. Dontrell Richardson and Mrs. Gena Evans - could decide on a new theme: "Nature of Attraction" which showcased the progression of a relationship between a male and female.

Each of the scenes focused on a different level of the progression of the relationship from the initial attraction to the final vow. The show consisted of 33 of our Oak Ridge High School students as models with many of them being members of the L.I.F.E. Mentoring Program and the Keeping It Classy Sisterhood. The models showcased attires such as business, athletic gear, formal wear and urban. A majority of the pieces selected for the show represented something in nature such as florals and animal prints. Hosts for this event were Ms. Kimberly Blaise - Director of Pre-Collegiate Programs at Rollins College and Dr. David Hardrick - Assistant Principal at Meadowbrook Middle School and OCPS AP of The Year.

The show was attended by many students, parents and families of our models and many of our sponsors/donators for this year. It was a spectacular event and we can't wait for next year's Fashion Flow!!
