This Week at BJBE
June 4,  2018
A Note from Sally Sachar, Executive Director

Hello Congregants -

HAPPY JUNE! (How is it possible that it is already June?)

TONIGHT is the Annual Meeting. It is NOT too late to RSVP, so we very much hope you will do so by clicking here. This is a very important meeting in terms of voting on the 2018-19 budget and the Board of Trustees and Sisterhood Slates. Meeting is at 7:00pm this evening, with a 6:30pm reception in advance.

Please join us this Friday at 7:30pm for our Leadership Shabbat Service as we will be welcoming our new board members and leaders, including our new Senior Youth Group Board, Sisterhood Co-Presidents, and BJBE board members, and also thanking board members and leaders who are transitioning off.

THIS SUNDAY, several of our congregants will be performing at the biannual Greater Chicago Jewish Festival at the St. Paul Woods, Cook County Forest Preserve . We hope you will attend the festival on June 10, from 11 am to 6 pm.  Featured performers include: Tracy Friend with Andy Dennen, Marcus Newman and Gary Schaffel; Shakshuka, including Steve Yastrow, Chuck Rosenberg, Rachel Rosenberg, Shimon Levi, Levi Yastrow, Ari Rosenberg, and Packy Lundholm; Steven Chaitman; and the Kol Zimra Choir. BJBE will have a table; help volunteer to staff our table by clicking here.

I want to welcome to our BJBE front office team Beth Lewis, a BJBE congregant who will be working with us part-time for the 4 month period between now and the High Holy Days. Beth is part of our High Holy Days team, and will also support other special projects during her time here. She joins us having had a robust career in the field of talent search in a range of employment sectors. Further, Beth has extensive experience in writing, technology, and content management, and will be a terrific addition to our team. Please join me in welcoming Beth, who can be reached at [email protected] .

Finally, please click here to learn about our robust summer program schedule.

Have a great week.

SOCIAL ACTION NETWORK

Luggage for Freedom's goal is to provide a sense of dignity to women who are staying at and transitioning out of domestic violence and homeless shelters, by giving them a suitcase packed with some personal and household items. To that end, Luggage for Freedom provides gently used luggage packed with new towels, new sheets, and new toiletries to women leaving local domestic violence shelters to start their lives anew. We also provide backpacks filled with books and stuffed animals for children. We pack an average of approximately 200 suitcases and over 100 backpacks and deliver them to 9 local shelters. Luggage for Freedom has an incredible ability to directly impact women and children in a positive way, at a time when they are most vulnerable.
