It is hard to believe that we are already midway through February of 2020! If you're anything like the 60% of Americans that make New Year's resolutions in January, February is when a lot of us start to give up on those goals. In fact, only about 8% of us achieve our resolutions each year.
The good news is, the library wants to help you reach those resolutions. Whether you need a great cook book to help you with your healthy eating resolutions, or a fitness book to help you with your fitness goals in the new year, we're here to help keep you on track. Maybe you've resolved to learn a new language, the Library has
Mango Languages to help you with your goals!
All of these resolutions have one thing in common ... they all involve reading. In 2020, the Fulton County Library System wants you to #resolvetoread. Resolve to read a book with your newborn, through our Books for Babies program. Resolve to read a book with your child every night, because we know that reading to children early increases their chances for educational success later in life. Resolve to read for yourself every night. Read during your morning and evening commute with our
eBooks and audiobooks.
There are so many positive outcomes when you read at any age. Join us and make 2020 the year you #ResolvetoRead.
Look out for more ways to participate in our #ResolvetoRead campaign in 2020. In the meantime, tag us (@fulcolibrary) in your photos on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram and show us how you are reaching your reading goals and perhaps even, some of those resolutions.

Celebrate Black History Month at the Library

The Fulton County Library System celebrates Black History Month with programs throughout February in our library branches. Here are just a few of the programs happening soon!
It’s Black History Month!
Auburn Avenue Research Library, 101 Auburn Avenue NE, Atlanta, GA 30303
In celebration of Black History Month and throughout the month of February, the AARL will screen intriguing films or documentaries, exploring the history of the Fifteenth Amendment, voter suppression and purging, and the right of blacks to the ballot after the Civil War.
Films screened during this program reflect and explore the ongoing struggle on the part of both black men and black women for the right to vote.
Family Movie: The Watsons Go to Birmingham

March Madness: 007 edition at Alpharetta Library
|
|
Attention all 007 experts and enthusiasts,
Join the Alpharetta library for a 007 inspired March Madness competition! Each of the twenty-five 007 movies will go head to head in a single elimination bracket tournament. Eliminations are determined by votes (from you). Voting will commence online on the 3rd of February, 2020. Your mission if you choose to accept it: vote for your favorite James Bond movie and check back every week online to vote for your favorite James Bond film and to eliminate the movie with the least votes until there are only two movies. The winning film and the 2nd place film will be screened at the Alpharetta Library on March 30th at 3:00 PM.
Refreshments will be available after the first screening on a first come first served basis, until supplies runs out in our "G.Lazenby Lounge" between shows. Knowledge and wits will be put to the test on 007 movie lore as prizes are on the line and can be obtained by those skilled enough.
Which James Bond movies will make it to the finals? Do you think you are skilled enough for our 007 movie lore challenge? Action, suspense, knowledge, mingling, fun and glory can all be obtained by you!
This Program is funded by the Friends of the Alpharetta Library. All adults are welcomed, Registration is required.

Join the Evelyn G. Lowery Library @ Cascade for the Harlem Renaissance Traveling Exhibit. The program will feature storytimes at the Cascade Library, hosted by local members of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

Early Voting Begins at the Library
|
|
Early voting in the Presidential Preference Primary and Special Election begins in March.
Libraries in Fulton County have historically hosted early voting locations and 2020 will be no exception!
The library values our role in this important democratic process, but with that role comes some inconveniences to patrons. During early voting, patrons may experience fuller parking lots, lines in front of the library to get into a polling place and increased traffic getting in and out of our branches.

AARP Tax Preparation Sites for 2020
|
|
|
|
The Fulton County Library System is, once again, hosting AARP Tax Preparation Sites in 2020 (for 2019 tax prep). Sites are open for a weekly schedule between 2/1/20 and 4/15/20 unless otherwise noted.
ALL library locations are closed Monday, February 17, 2020.

YOU MUST BRING a copy of: 2018 federal/state tax return, all Tax Year 2019 tax documents, proof of medical insurance, a check with home address/name for direct deposit, a picture ID and a SS card for each person on the tax return.

Featured Library Renovation: Adams Park Library
|
|
The College Park Library re-opened to the public Thursday, December 19, 2019 after a remarkable renovation project! The new look was unveiled to a crowd of neighborhood supporters, local and county officials and included activities for patrons of all ages! Check out the beautiful new building in the images below or stop by and see for yourself. You will love the new open layout, new finishes, study rooms and more.
Project Overview:
The Adams Park Library is a 7,500 square foot facility. Fulton County Library System renovation plans are to provide an up-to-date, comfortable, and safe building that meets the needs of the patrons and the library system. The Adams Park Library renovations revised the overall interior layout, which includes new furniture, computers, shelving units, lighting and enhancements to technology. A fire sprinkler system was added to the library which did not exist prior to the renovation.

The renovated library includes self check-out machines, lowered shelving, for better visibility across the branch and more book display areas.
|
|
|
|
Open layouts and more natural light make the branch easier to navigate while providing better security for branch staff with increased visibility across the main floor.
|
|
|
|
|
New technology, including new computers for patrons, are among the many technology upgrades at the renovated Fairburn Library.
|
|
|
|
Work and reading stations throughout the branch like these allow patrons to enjoy some natural light while reading, studying, checking email or just relaxing.
