Last Wednesday our students successfully completed the 2017-2018 school year. We wrapped up the year with a pair of special ceremonies which are featured in this early June issue.

I also want to remind the community that our media center will be open throughout the summer on certain days (calendar below). The "summer slide" is very real and we encourage all of our Knights to visit and to keep up with their reading.

While we will likely run a few issues of The Kingdom's Chronicle this summer, in the meantime please check the LNMS Facebook page and website for 2018-2019 school year updates! #knightshonor

I hope this finds your June off to a great start and thank you for looking over this abbreviated early summer break edition.

In Knights Honor,

Stephanie R. Jackson, M. Ed.
Principal, Lake Nona Middle School

Vital Signs

2017-2018 Day of Excellence

On May 29th, students were awarded trophies, medals and/or certificates for showing educational growth, improvement, commitment or intellectual development in their academic subjects. Some students demonstrated unusual commitment to learning in academics despite various obstacles.

We would like to thank the LNMS School Advisory Council for funding  these awards and making the school year memorable for these students. Nine hundred (900) cupcakes and rainbow sherbert punch rounded out the afternoon with parents, teachers, administrators and students enjoying the final moments! The student recognition categories for 2017-2018 were as follows:
  • All A's
  • Sunshine State Readers Award
  • Battle of the Books
  • Spirit of Excellence
  • Spreading the Dream

  • Spelling Bee
  • Outstanding ESOL Students

Knight Partners
Local Business Support (Continued from the prior issue)

Our Partners stepped up for Teacher Appreciation Week '18!
On behalf of the LNMS teachers and PTSA, thank you to our Partners in Education for your commitment to our middle school during Teacher Appreciation Week. The donations and active sponsorship from your organizations and employees makes a positive impact on our teachers just knowing that you support their dedication to the students of the Lake Nona community.

We would not have been able to put together such a wonderful week last month for our Teacher Knights without our magnificent community partners. Thank you again!!!
8th Grade Field Day
Good luck to our 8th grade Knights as they will soon enter high school as freshmen!

It is unbelievable how time flies. We wrapped up the school year with over 400 8th graders enjoying a favorite year-end event where students and staff participated in outdoor and some indoor activities. Even the rain could not wash out the fun. The day ended with the 8th graders parading to the bus between a gauntlet of teachers waving as they left for summer.

This year's event was sponsored by Lach Orthodontic Specialists which included: 127 pizza pies, 700 bottles of water and Lach water bottles. PTSA sponsored the DJ,  concessions and 20 cans of whipped cream for the pie in-the-face raffle. Our teachers were very good sports about the whipped cream event. And Bahama Bucks provided refreshing drinks at cost.

Monday's Motivational Moment

WHY DO YOU SHARE . . .

A reporter once asked a farmer to divulge the secret behind his corn, which won the state fair contest year after year. The farmer confessed it was all because he shared his seed with his neighbors.

"Why do you share your best seed corn with your neighbors when you're entering the same contest each year as well?" asked the reporter.

"Why sir?" said the farmer, "Didn't you know? The wind picks up pollen from the ripening corn and swirls it from field to field. If my neighbors grew inferior corn, cross-pollination would steadily degrade the quality of my corn. If I am to grow good corn, I must help my neighbor do the same."

The lesson for our Knights? Those who want to be successful must in turn help their neighbors, friends, and relatives to be successful. In the long-run, the value of a life is measured by the lives it touches.
----------

Wishing you a successful week ahead and looking ahead to next school year,
please consider sharing a little of your time as a LNMS volunteer!
