Gulf Coast Chapter member develops innovative product
After seeing the devastating impact of Hurricane Harvey on her community and her patients in Houston, ANAC Gulf Coast Chapter member Cordella Lyon, RN, developed an innovative emergency kit for natural disasters. This red backpack contains a dry bag for important documents and medications, cellphone charger, pill box, hygiene products and disaster supplies. Cordella serves as the preventive screening coordinator for Baptist Hospitals System in SE Texas, responsible for the screening and linkage to care programs for HIV and HCV. Great job, Cordella!

Rhode Island Chapter supports RI AIDS Walk
The Rhode Island chapter is once again participating in the RI AIDS Walk in June. The chapter forms a team each year to raise money for AIDS Project RI (APRI).  

They are also hosting a session titled: "Cervical Cancer Screening and STI's among Women Living with HIV" June 6. If you would like more information, please visit their Facebook page

The JANAC podcast library includes a variety of interviews with pertinent information to ANAC members. You can  listen to authors discuss their articles and conference speakers, JANAC editorial board members, and ANAC members talk about HIV and nursing. Save the date: fall meeting
The International Nursing Network for HIV/AIDS Research will hold their fall meeting at the University of Cincinnati September 14-15. The winter meeting will be held in Puerto Rico in 2020. Watch for more details soon!

Center for AIDS Research supplement
The CFAR program at the NIH invites applications from currently funded CFAR programs that are eligible for  administrative supplements to apply for support for innovative research projects, inter-CFAR meetings and shared instrumentation that address key gaps in HIV/AIDS care. Applications should align with the NIH priorities and the End the HIV Epidemic initiative.  Application deadline is May 24, 2019.

U.N approves health policy change 
Last week, the U.N. Security Council approved a limited version of a resolution on sexual violence in conflict after the U.S. government threatened to veto it over reproductive health language. The resolution was intended to address the increased risk of rape of women and violence to LGBT individuals in conflict. Language referring to a provision of comprehensive reproductive health services and threats to LGBT populations were removed resulting in worldwide concerns about increased risks to vulnerable populations

Assistant professor - Pittsburgh, PA
The Department of Infectious Diseases and Microbiology, Pitt Public Health,  University of Pittsburgh is seeking applications at the level of assistant professor (tenure stream). The successful applicant will have a doctoral degree in infectious diseases, epidemiology, public health, social or behavioral science, or a related discipline (e.g., MD/DO), as well as a strong record of public health practice and/or applied research in sexually transmitted infections, including HIV/AIDS.  A history of externally funded research or the demonstrated ability to attract external funding is preferred. The position will function as director of a three-year demonstration project, funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Pennsylvania Department of Health, intended to increase pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) uptake in Allegheny County (PA) among populations most at risk for HIV infection.
