This Sunday

Once again the Presbyterian Women will lead the worship service this Sunday.  They will have us reflect on "Women Called to Lead with Love."

One of the ways these women lead with love is through the gift of hospitality.   These women serve as role models for the rest of us.

The service will include the Installation of the PW Coordinating Team Officers and a special coffee hour will follow.

Join us this Sunday as we celebrate the gifts of these women and glorify God!

NOISY OFFERING for Cents-Ability will be received this Sunday to support ministries to relieve hunger locally, regionally, and globally.

COFFEE HOUR  - Everyone is welcome to join us in the Chittick Lounge for a special coffee hour following the service. Come and enjoy a time of warm hospitality and fellowship.

From The Associate Pastor

Dear Friends,

There are questions circulating around the church as to whether or not I am retiring. My husband, Doug, is retiring September 1st after 27 years as pastor of Brick Presbyterian Church. That has led many to wonder about my plans.

Some months ago I spoke to Carl about my future plans. At that time I told him I intended to retire sometime in 2018. When I told him, I had no idea that he would be relocating in the near future. When Carl announced he had been called to a new position, this caused me to rethink my plans. I did so because I knew I would not leave you without pastoral leadership. I felt that even though I would still be working part-time, I could be available to provide continuity and a sense of stability. My thoughts were that I could also be present for pastoral care, especially in times of death, illness and emergencies.

Once an interim is settled on the scene, I do plan to retire. At this time, I cannot give you a date.  My retirement date will depend on when the interim is hired and begins to work. My hope is that it will be sometime this Summer.

Friends, I have been working as an ordained minister of the PCUSA for 42 years come October, 2018. I am ready to retire. I am ready to find out what God has in store of me in the next stage of my life.

It has been a pleasure to be in ministry with you here at Point Pleasant Presbyterian Church. By the way, I am not gone yet so you will still be hearing from me!

Blessings,

Linda

Wilton Hall Dedication This Sunday

Please join this Sunday for the dedication of Wilton Hall in the CE Annex in honor of the Rev. Dr. Carlos E. Wilton.  The dedication ceremony will begin at 3:00 p.m. followed by a coffee and cake reception. Dr. Wilton, along with the Rev. Claire Pula, will be returning for the dedication as we recognized him for his outstanding work and devotion in establishing the Volunteer Village after Hurricane Sandy.

All are welcome to join us in this joyous dedication.  All who participated in the mission of the Volunteer Village are especially encouraged to attend.

Giving Update

Thank you to everyone who contributed to One Great Hour of Sharing.  We  collected $1,308.65.  One Great Hour of Sharing allows us all, young and old, the opportunity to share our gifts and resources with our brothers and sisters in need around the world. Through this offering, we participate in the many ministries that serve the hungry, the poor, the distressed, the refugee.

In addition there were 55 school and hygiene kits that were shipped out this week to Church World Services.

Lunch at the Rainbow Diner

How is your memory?  Three things to remember

1.  This Monday, April 23, all are welcome to join friends from our congregation for
Lunch at the Rainbow Diner in Brick.
2.   Lunch begins at 12 noon.
3.  It is always a fun time.

"Dine" Around

Once again we're calling all Presbyterian women who would like to join us this month for "Dine Around".  The fourth  Wednesday of each month is our time to join for food, fellowship and fun.  This month, on  Wednesday, April 25th, at 6:30 p.m . will be a special treat!

Jacque Thorton has invited all Presbyterian women to her home for dinner!!! She will cook and we're asked just to bring whatever we would prefer to drink. Jacque is very happy to be settled into her condo and would like to share her joy with us.  Next month we will be back to meeting local restaurants.

If you can join us on the 25th please call Jacque and let her know so she can prepare accordingly.  Her number is 732-644-8186 and her address is  101 Clipper Court, Toms River (Silverton area).  Hope to see you there.

New Beginnings Update

The New Beginning groups have been consistently meeting since March.  Close to 60 people have actively participated in one of the seven groups that were offered.  Towards the end of the month, each group will have met for a total of four times.

In these groups, the New Beginning process is helping our congregation clarity decisions that need to be made in terms of the use of our assets/resources and mission.  The group meetings have allowed people to exchange thoughts, impressions, and ideas before rushing to solutions.  Based on feedback so far, we hear many have enjoyed and been encouraged by their small group discussions.

A recap meeting of the group leaders will take place on May 10 at 6:00 p.m.  A consensus from the leaders will form the basis of a report to the congregation.  From this point we will begin to solidify decisions about our church's future. We look forward to our church having a healthy-and holy-conversation that engages all interested members in creating a New Beginning together.

Pentecost Flowers

Pentecost will be celebrated on Sunday, May 20. Red is the color of the day! Begonia's are the flower of the day! We will decorate the Sanctuary with begonias on Pentecost. Afterwards we will be planting them around the Church.

We invite you to purchase a begonia as a way to celebrate someone who the Holy Spirit has used in your life to inspire your faith. Begonias come in 4"pots and cost $5.00 each.

Please fill out the order form in the bulletin or online. Payment must be included with this order form. Checks should be made payable to PPPC, and please be sure to indicate "Pentecost Flowers" on the memo line of your check! Order form and payment may be placed in the offering plate or mailed/delivered to the church office.

Flowers orders are due Wednesday, May 13, 2018

Point Pleasant Presbyterian Church - Session

"For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us."   Romans 12:4-6

The Session is the governing body of Point Pleasant Presbyterian Church.  Those elected by the congregation to the Session are called Ruling Elders.  Ruling Elders, together with Teaching Elders (Ministers) exercise leadership, government, spiritual discernment, and discipline while also having responsibility for the life and well being of the whole church.

We are blessed to have a Session that is so invested in our church.  At their meeting this week the Session discussed the following:
  • The Griggs Scholarship is to be awarded again this year to a deserving high school senior who applies.
  • Discussed possible changes to Holy Week services based on comparison of attendance figures from the past few years. Recommendation to refer to Worship Committee who will make the decision when the Interim Pastor arrives.
  • Worship Committee will be seeking volunteers from the congregation to be members of the committee when it reorganizes in June. Christian Education Committee, as well as other committees, will also be inviting new members to join present members after the conclusion of the New Beginnings meetings.
  • Christian Ed Committee will be selling flowers for Mothers' Day to earn money for purchase of media equipment for use at Vacation Bible School and Church School.
  • Resources Committee thanked all who responded to the roof campaign with their generous gifts. The roof looks beautiful, and even with all the precipitation recently, we are dry!
  • Confirmation classes, lasting 8 weeks, will be completed by June 3rd when Rev. Linda Chase is preaching and Confirmation is scheduled.

Good News!

Congratulations to Ruling Elder Frank Jones who was recently awarded the Hitachi Services Sales Rep of the Year for all the Americas and Top Services Deal of the Year!  Frank received  his award this week in Las Vegas. Way to go Frank!

This Week at Point Beach Prep

This was the last week the Child Development Class will be visiting us this school year. They read us the story Pancakes Pancakes by Eric Carle. We then made pancakes in the shape of their first initial! We also followed a rebus recipe and each child made a fruit kabob with strawberries and blueberries. The children sequenced the book with pictures and then made a project, gluing pictures from the story. It was a lot of fun and a great last prepared lesson. We are pleased and thankful for the collaboration between the High School and the preschool, it has been a beneficial partnership!

Our letter of the week was Y. Our sign language word and sight word was yes. We read Yes Day, Yay, Who Are You? Yertle the Turtle,The Yellow Kayak, and Good Morning Yoga. During Show and Tell we saw lots of yellow items, yarn, yo-yos, Yankees' caps, and even yeast!

We also worked on an Earth Day project. We talked about reducing, reusing, recycling and doing our part to protect our planet.

See you next week with our final letter of the alphabet!

New Jersey Chamber Singers - 40th Anniversary

The New Jersey Chamber Singers are celebrating 40 years of dedication to providing New Jersey audiences with exceptional choral experiences. They are also celebrating a decade of artistic growth, which has led to larger audiences, a heightened presence in the community and the support of their patrons. They will display these exciting accomplishments in a festive concert featuring Bach's Ein Feste Burg, Haydn's Te Deum, and Mozart's Requiem. This historically-informed concert will be performed in the Baroque style, and will seek to convey the profound artistic expression of these 17th-century masterworks to our modern audience.  Join them on Sunday May, 6 from 6-8 p.m. at St. Catholics Church in Spring Lake.  Tickets are being sold on their website http://njchambersingers.org/spring-2018
