Rush Report
Parents,

This next addition of my weekly address comes with a name that has been resurrected from my teaching days. If I taught your student at any point in my career here as a teacher at St. Roch Catholic School, you looked forward weekly or bi-weekly to my classroom newsletter. Those newsletters were called The Rush Report. I have noticed a sense of longing for another addition or two or three of The Rush Report, so I have brought it back. For those unfamiliar with The Rush Report, you will want to read each and every word! You will see why, if you do!

Ordinarily MayFest would be the top thing on my mind this week, but that is going to take second place to Mrs. Wilson. As all of you know by now, Mrs. Wilson had surgery earlier this week and this procedure has a recovery time that will not allow her to return to school for this school year. This is very hard for her, and very sad for the staff, students, and teachers. We all love Mrs. Wilson very much and wish she could be here to fill us with her laughter and spirit. I can assure you she is still working and staying involved from behind the scenes. I speak, text, and visit with her on a daily basis, so her presence is still here, it is just reflected through me. Myself, the staff, and the teachers are committed to bringing this school year to a successful finish, and we will all work together to accomplish that task. Mrs. Wilson will guide us with her love, prayers, and communication with me. We wish her a quick and successful recovery.

Now onto MayFest!! This next week is MayFest week, and we all know the fun and excitement that next week brings. It also brings it share of adjustments to our daily school schedule. On Wednesday, our main parking lot will have been transformed into the MayFest Midway. This will mandate adjustments to our arrival and dismissal. If you are using Before Care, you will need to park by the church and walk your students to the East (Playground Doors). Mrs. Baker will be there to greet them and keep them safe. If you are arriving or picking up during the normal hours, students will be dropped off on Pennsylvania Avenue by the church. Staff members will be there to open doors and keep the students safe.

There are 2 rules to follow:
1. Enter Pennsylvania North of the church and exit Pennsylvania to the south
2. Do not let your children jump out of or jump into your car without a staff member there to make sure they get in and out safely.

If you take care of these two rules, the staff, teachers, and I will take care of the rest and all will be safe! Do not create your own pick-up or drop-off plan or short cut because that puts students in harm’s way. Parents if you see someone not following the procedure we have set in place, please email me at rrush@strochindy.org.

Final thing on MayFest! Please come and enjoy this event. All the proceeds from MayFest come right back to the school! Please help to make this event a success.

There are 2 rules for MayFest:
 1. Come out and enjoy the event with your family and be safe
2. Volunteer to help out! For every 2 hours you spend at MayFest having fun, you volunteer to work 1 hour (or more if you can)
Events like MayFest are only successful, if we all pull together and do our part! See you at MayFest!

That is the end of this edition of the Rush Report! Here is the reason why you read all of this information. Email the answers to the questions below to me and your student(s) will be entered in a drawing for some fun prizes.
Questions:
1. What 3 things will Mrs. Wilson guide us with the remainder of this year?
2. Which direction should you be going for normal drop off and pick up on Pennsylvania on Wednesday?
3. What should you do if you see someone not following our drop-off and pick-up plan on Wednesday?
4. How many hours should you volunteer for MayFest?
5. Sometimes I make spelling or grammar errors, these are normally done on accident. However, sometimes I do them on purpose to see if you are paying attention. Did you see any errors in this Rush Report?

Send an email with the answers to these 5 questions to rrush@strochindy.org.

Adult Volunteers (and 6th Graders)
We need everyone’s help to make MayFest a success! We are asking that every parent volunteer for at least one shift during Mayfest (if you are a 2 parent household, we need BOTH parents to work a shift). There are MANY people who go above and beyond this request! We have times and opportunities to fit everyone’s schedules. And as usual, we will need people to help work the booths, Monte Carlo area, food areas, etc. Please sign up using the link below.

Sixth grade students wishing to earn service hours may sign up with an adult on this link for Kid’s games only.
7th & 8th Grade Students
Each 7th and 8th grade student is required to work 1 shift during Mayfest. Please note that the sign up has been set up a little differently this year and we are allowing the 7th and 8th graders to work a shift with their peers. We will not be using money for the kids games this year, they will be using punch cards. It is imperative that the students show up for their shifts, be on time, and manage the games responsibly as this is a fundraiser for the school.

IU Summer Program
The IU Game Development Camp is in its 7th year and offers a chance for students interested in computers, art, development, and design to create their own game projects. Our week-long sessions engage participants in every aspect of game development, and by the end of each week, students will have created a working game prototype from scratch.

Participants aged 13-18 will have the opportunity to explore 2D and 3D game development using cutting-edge industry technology on the IU Bloomington campus, and we offer both day camp and overnight options for out-of-town students. Four sessions run through June, and this year, we're once again excited to offer Girlpowered!, a camp which seeks to engage young women in technology and design. We have plenty of scholarship opportunities still available. Full details can be found here:  http://gamecamp.indiana.edu . Also, I'd be happy to come give a presentation about our Media School's summer offerings. Let me know if that's of interest!
