President Trump Unveils His Budget Proposal for 2021

Yesterday, President Trump released his Administration's budget proposal for the next fiscal year. Included within the proposal were deep funding cuts that would increase poverty, widen income inequality, and take away basic food assistance for Americans of all ages. Stay tuned for more details and an analysis of the key takeaways from the budget proposal with respect to food security in California. In the months ahead, Congress will begin making their own spending decisions. As Congress develops their budget plan, CFPA is committed to engaging our state and national partners in opposing the Administration's proposals to severely cut necessary assistance and to advocate changes that create a better life for all Californians.

Proposed Rule Threatens School Meal Quality

The USDA is attempting to roll back positive changes enacted under the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010, weakening school meal nutrition standards. The proposed rule would jeopardize student's access to healthy and well-balanced school meals by creating a loophole in nutrition guidelines that paves the way for children to consume foods higher in calories, saturated fat, and sodium.

DHS Public Charge Rule Takes Effect February 24th

Following the U.S. Supreme Court's decision to allow the Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) public charge rule to take effect,  U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced it will  implement  the final rule on Feb. 24, 2020.
