2019 International Symposium on Biomedical Imaging (ISBI)
 Call for Papers

The IEEE International Symposium on Biomedical Imaging (ISBI) is a scientific conference dedicated to mathematical, algorithmic, and computational aspects of biological and biomedical imaging, across all scales of observation. It fosters knowledge transfer among different imaging communities and contributes to an integrative approach to biomedical imaging. ISBI is a joint initiative from the IEEE Signal Processing Society (SPS) and the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (EMBS). The 2019 meeting will be held in Venice, Italy and will include tutorials, challenges and a scientific program composed of plenary talks, invited special sessions, as well as oral and poster presentations of peer-reviewed papers.

Life Sciences Conference
Call for Special Sessions, Tutorials and Papers Submissions

IEEE Engineering in Medicine & Biology Society (Malaysia Chapter) is pleased to announce the 5th installation of our flagship conference, IEEE-EMBS Conference on Biomedical Engineering and Sciences (IECBES 2018). In this installation, the conference returns to Borneo - this time in the very heart of Sarawak - Kuching, from December 3-6, 2018. The theme of the meeting is "Innovations in Global Healthcare". Consistent with our theme, we are seeking to arrange for plenary keynotes from leading industrial and academic scientists, who will give forward looking visions as well as current technological/knowledge limitations in our field - to help focus and spark innovations in healthcare.

A broad array of scientific tracks will cover diverse topics of cutting-edge research and innovation in biomedical engineering, healthcare technology R&D, translational clinical research, technology transfer and entrepreneurship, and biomedical engineering education. In addition to the high-profile keynotes, the conference program will feature mini symposia, workshops, invited sessions, oral and poster sessions, sessions for students and young professions, sessions for clinicians and entrepreneurs, and exhibits from vendors and universities. We look forward to meeting you in Kuching, Sarawak - the city of great history and legends.

MENOPAUSE MAY HOLD A KEY TO UNDERSTANDING
THE DEVELOPMENT OF ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE

In both men and women, a hallmark of Alzheimer's is the degradation of brain tissues, inflammation in certain areas, increased production of free radicals, and a breakdown of energy production within brain cells. While researchers have struggled to find a clear cause for the disease, it seems certain that some sort of metabolic effect is important. But the higher prevalence of Alzheimer's disease in women assumes a biological mechanism at work that is gender specific and likely hormonal. Now neuroscientists have provided the strongest evidence yet that estrogen, or the lack thereof, is a major culprit. And that discovery identified a new target-menopause.
