Earth Day Activities
Friday, April 20
The YC Stewards of the Earth Club are encouraging students to spend a dollar to wear a green shirt tomorrow in honor of this weekend's Earth Day.  Money will be collected in homeroom and will go towards sponsoring an endangered red panda.  The red panda has been classified as  Endangered  because its wild population is estimated at less than 10,000 mature individuals and continues to decline. Last year, YC students raised enough to adopt two manatees.  During all lunches Friday, there will be activities and games for students, including voting on a name for the red panda we adopt.

Saturday, April 21
Earth Day Clean-up at YC is scheduled for Saturday, April 21, from 9-11 AM. Students should meet on the front lawn by the main parking lot at 9 AM. We'll be walking around the school grounds cleaning up litter and trash, so good shoes and proper clothing are recommended. Service hours will be given to those who participate. Students do not need to sign-up. We'll see you Saturday at 9 AM.
Heritage Night
York Catholic's International Culture Club is hosting a Heritage Night on Friday, April 27, from 6-8 PM in the YC Lobby.  There will be free culturally-diverse foods available at the beginning of the evening, as well as cultural dances, activity tables, fashion shows, and much more. Bring the family for a great night of enjoyment as we unite in celebrating the rich diversity of our York Catholic Family. Students will be collecting school supply donations for Outreach Paraguay, Senor Sosa's non-profit organization.
Service Hours Deadlines
Service Hours for the 2017-2018 school year are due soon!  Seniors need to submit all of their hours by tomorrow, Friday, April 20. The 7th through 11th grade hours are due Monday, April 30.  Corporal works of mercy are an important part of Christian life, and our life as a YC community.  Keep an eye out for service opportunities from now until the due dates if you are in need of doing a bit more.
Parents of Seniors
As we prepare to celebrate our seniors' successful completion of high school, we remind parents of the following:
  • If you have not done so, please send in a 4x6 or 5x7 photo of your child when he/she was younger than age 5. Please put it in an envelope with your child's name on the front and send it to the main office by Monday, April 23.
  • Please write a personal congratulations letter to your graduate and encourage siblings, grandparents, Godparents, teachers, and others to write as well. In the past, letters reminisced about the graduate's growth of life or hopes for the future. It can be a note card, a song, a poem, a card, or a 10 page letter -- your choice. Place each card or letter in an envelope and label it with your child's name, and be sure each letter is signed by the author. We would like each child to have a letter from at least one parent and 2 additional people. Please place all envelopes and cards in a large envelope and send it to Roxanne Castellanos' attention at York Catholic by Tuesday, May 1. Please do not send gifts for students.
Congratulatory Senior Carnations

Anyone wishing to send a senior a congratulatory carnation may order it during lunch periods from April 23-27, for the cost of $1 each.  Any parent, grandparent, or friend may click here to fill out an order form.  National Honor Society members will distribute the flowers on Friday, May 11

New Process!  Sports Physicals Paperwork
to be Completed Online
Students wishing to participate in athletics during the 2018-2019 school year must submit the following paperwork online:
  • PIAA Physical Form
  • Athlete & Parent Agreement
  • ImPACT Test
Students wishing to play any sport during the 2018-2019 school year MUST verify the paperwork is on file with Mr. Hayek no later than Wednesday, August 1 , at 3 PM; no exceptions.

NEW!! PLEASE NOTE THIS IMPORTANT CHANGE

The York Catholic Athletic Department now hosts their Athletic Forms online with Arbiter Athlete, powered by PlanetHS, a software company committed to keeping student(s) safe. This digital platform will allow parents and athletes to complete and access most athletic forms (physicals, agreements, etc.) via computer, tablet, or mobile phone. It is HIPPA, COPPA, and FERPA compliant.

York Catholic will continue to host Sports Physicals at OSS Health in June. Instead of printing 9 pages of information to take to the doctor as was needed previously, you will instead complete the information online and only print 2 pages for the doctor to review and complete.

Before forms can be completed by parent and student, ArbiterAthlete accounts must be set-up by each athlete and his or her parent. Click here for instructions on how to set-up an account. Forms will be valid for the entire 2018-2019 school year.

Failure to complete the online paperwork by the deadline will mean the student will not be permitted to practice the first day of the season. For some sports, this could mean the student will not make the team. Contact Mr. Hayek at  [email protected] or 717-846-8871 x244 if you have any questions and to be sure you have a valid ImPACT Test on file. If you need technical assistance with Arbiter Athlete/PlanetHS, email [email protected].

A brief instructional meeting regarding these changes will be held for parents and athletes Wednesday, May 16, at 7 PM in the YC auditorium.
Field Hockey Coming to YC!

Juniors Isabella Pugh and Rebekah Boyer are competing in the FIRST International Robotics Championships in Detroit, MI next week. Combining the excitement of sport with the rigors of science and technology, the FIRST Robotics Competition is the ultimate sport for the mind. Under strict rules, limited resources, and an intense six-week time limit, teams of students are challenged to raise funds, design a team "brand," hone teamwork skills, and build and program industrial-size robots to play a difficult field game against like-minded competitors. It's as close to real-world engineering as a student can get. Volunteer professional mentors lend their time and talents to guide each team. The season culminates with the Championship next week. Good luck Isabella and Bekah!
