Art lovers of all ages are invited to the C ity of Moreno Valley’s inaugural MoVal Artfest, featuring dozens of local artists. Bring the entire family to enjoy artwork, crafts, music and a Chalk Art Competition.

Residents Invited to Community Park Soccer Complex Re-opening
Residents are  invited to celebrate the Grand Re-Opening of the Community Park Soccer Complex following a $2.6 million investment by the City Council to renovate the complex with state-of-the-art soccer facilities for the more than 200,000 Moreno Valley residents and visiting athletes who compete at the regional venue each year.

The soccer complex renovation transformed all four fields with professional grade synthetic turf, replacing turf which has been in place for more than a decade. The new state-of-the-art turf features a cool fill rubber system to create a first class experience for competitors and spectators alike.

"The hundreds of thousands of soccer players and fans who choose Moreno Valley as their preferred venue will now be able to enjoy an enhanced athletic experience,” said Mayor Yxstian Gutierrez. “The City Council’s investment is not just in soccer fields, it is an investment in our quality of life.”

Use of the soccer complex has dramatically increased since the original synthetic turf was installed in 2008. Synthetic turf fields offer numerous advantages over natural grass, including increasing the number of days the fields can be used since muddy conditions after rain are no longer a concern.

This project achieves several priorities included in the City’s Momentum MoVal strategic plan, including creating a positive environment for the development of Moreno Valley’s future, promoting community pride, and ensuring that needed public facilities are constructed and maintained.

City Celebrates Opening of Moreno Valley Hyundai Dealership
The City celebrates the opening of Hyundai of Moreno Valley - the first new car dealership built in Moreno Valley in nearly fourteen years. The new dealership is located at 27500 Eucalyptus Avenue, near the Stoneridge Towne Center.

The City is thrilled to welcome Hyundai of Moreno Valley to our City. In addition to offering quality vehicles and generating tax revenues, the Hyundai dealer committed to the Hire MoVal program and filled many of the newly created dealership jobs with Moreno Valley residents.

The City Council approved the Hyundai dealership and an agreement to secure employment of Moreno Valley residents. Hyundai of Moreno Valley held several job recruitment fairs at the Moreno Valley Employment Resource Center.   
Barbecue Safety Tips
Barbecuing is a favorite American pastime and a summer tradition for many.

But it can be dangerous if you aren’t careful.

Keep your family and yourself safe while grilling with these safety tips from the Moreno Valley Fire Department:
 
  • Propane and charcoal barbecue grills should only be used outdoors

  • Place grills away from the home, deck railings and away from eaves and overhanging branches

  • Do not wear loose clothing

  • Keep children and your pets away from the cooking area

  • Remember to clean the grill regularly by removing grease or fat buildup from the grill or trays below

  • Never leave the barbecue unattended

  • Keep a fire extinguisher within reach

Safety Tips for Propane Grills:

  • Check the gas (propane) tank hose for potential gas leaks

  • Start by applying a light soap and water solution to the hose using a brush or spray bottle

  • If there is a gas leak, the propane will release bubbles around the hose when you turn on the tank

  • If there are no bubbles, your grill is safe to use

  • If there are bubbles, turn off the tank and check connections. Have your grill serviced by a professional before using again

  • If you smell gas as you’re cooking, turn off the gas tank and burners

  • If the leak stops, get the grill serviced by a professional before using it again

  • If the leak continues, move away from the grill and call the fire department immediately. DO NOT move the grill.

Safety Tips for Charcoal Grills:

  • Never add charcoal fluid or any other flammable liquids to the fire

  • Keep charcoal fluid out of the reach of children and away from heat sources

  • For electric charcoal grills, use an extension cord to keep the grill away from the home

  • Let the coals cool completely before disposing of them in a metal container

Drowning Prevention Tips
Drowning is the nation’s leading cause of accidental death of children under the age of five, and the second leading cause of death from unintentional injuries for ages one to 14.

The majority of drownings occur in residential swimming pools and spas.

Drowning is 100 percent preventable.

Unfortunately dozens of preventable near drowning and drowning incidents occur in Riverside County each year.

Help prevent drowning with the following water safety tips from the Moreno Valley Fire Department:
Stay Close, Be Alert and Watch Children in and Around the Pool
  • Always watch your children when they are in or near a pool or spa

  • Teach children basic water safety tips

  • Keep children away from pool drains, pipes, and other openings to avoid entrapments

  • Have a cell phone or other portable telephone close by at all time when you are using a pool or spa

  • If a child is missing, check the pool and spa immediately

  • Share safety instructions with family, friends, and neighbors
Learn and Practice Water Safety Skills
  • Lean how to swim and teach children how to swim

  • Learn to perform CPR on children and adults, and update those skills regularly

  • Understand the basics of life-saving so that you can assist in a pool emergency
Have Appropriate Pool Equipment
  • Install a four-foot fence around the pool and spa and use self-closing and self-latching gates; ask your neighbors to do the same at their pools

  • Install and use a lockable safety cover on your spa

  • If your house serves a fourth side of a fence around a pool, install door alarms and always use them

  • For additional protection, install windows guards on windows facing pools or spas

  • Install pool and gate alarms to alert you when children go near the water

  • Ensure any pool and spa you use has compliant drain covers, and ask your pool service provider if you are unsure

  • Maintain pool and spa covers in good working order

  • Consider using a surface wave or underwater alarm

A recently conducted survey indicated that Moreno Valley residents strongly prioritize public safety and quality of life services. As we continue to prepare for the future, we are committed to protecting and maintaining the vital city services to make Moreno Valley a better place to live, work, and raise a family.

Over the last 10 years, the State has taken over $50 million in locally controlled funds from the City. More than 2/3rds of Moreno Valley residents believe that the City needs additional funding to protect and maintain key city services.

Maintaining rapid 9-1-1 emergency response times is among our top priorities. Fast response times to 9-1-1 calls are critical for saving lives. Moreno Valley is working hard to maintain the rapid response times of our City’s paramedics, firefighters, and emergency medical workers who are the first to respond and save lives.

We are also working to preserve vital youth services. Studies show that between 3 and 6 p.m. – the hours after school ends and before parents typically return home from work – children without an after-school activity are three times more likely to get into trouble. Supervised after-school park, recreation, and library programs are essential to keep children safe, off the streets, and out of trouble.

The community survey also showed that Moreno Valley residents support key city services, such as:

  • Maintaining 9-1-1 emergency medical response times
  • Maintaining robbery and burglary suppression programs
  • Maintaining safe and clean public areas
  • Repairing potholes, local streets, and roads
  • Enhancing recreation and youth programs and facilities
