VYSA Soccer Hall of Fame Inductees
Congratulations to Matt Borgard and Luis Rendon, former FC Richmond Magic players, for being inducted into the Virginia Youth Soccer Association Hall of Fame on February 1st!
Matt was a standout player for FC Richmond Magic. During this time, Borgard was twice named to the US National Team. After a trip to Germany and Holland with FCR, Matt was invited to stay in Germany with SV Meppen in the 2nd Division Bundesliga, where he played with the U18 A Junge Team. Matt went on to play at the University of South Florida and continued his playing career at the professional ranks for six years.
Luis played the majority of his youth career for FC Richmond. He was a member of the U18 National Team competing against other National Teams in Israel, Portugal, and Northern Ireland. He was awarded the 2011 Gatorade National Boys Soccer Player of the Year, being recognized as the top high school player in the country and the first Junior to win this award. Luis went on to play at Duke University. Congratulations, Matt and Luis!

Kindness for Kids (and pets)
The Junior Board is spreading kindness in February with a variety of community outreach opportunities! We began the month supporting Connor's Heroes by writing letters to kids with cancer. Later this month, two teams will visit the Ronald McDonald House to make lunch for families staying there while their children receive medical treatment. Finally, at the end of the month, we will spread some kindness to dogs and cats at the SPCA. If your team is looking for an opportunity to go "Beyond the Game", contact Lynne Ellis at lynne@fcrichmond.com
"Beyond the Game" Player
This month's "Beyond the Game" player is Gerard Broussard. Gerard, a member of the U19 Magic team, is a leader of a community service group at his church where he helps make a positive impact on his community and environment. Gerard volunteers in river clean-ups once a month and helps inform others about environmental issues through an Environmental Action and Awareness club. Gerard also serves as a leader in his church's missionary society, planning and executing fundraisers, drives, and community service projects. Gerard will be playing soccer next year at Campbell University! Way to go, Gerard!
Coach's Corner
Congratulations to Ian Stowe for completing his USSF National "B" Coaching License! Ian is FC Richmond's Director of Activities and current coach of U16 and U19 Mystx teams. Ian recently spent six months working through an intensive curriculum, which included three weeks in Kansas City at the US Soccer National Development Center. While there, he completed a variety of field sessions and classroom sessions. In order to earn to his B license, Ian needed to successfully complete a field training session in front of his classmates and his instructor in which he was evaluated and received a passing grade. In addition, he was required to complete several group projects focusing on Periodization, Game Analysis, and Training Session Development. Ian would like to thank his U19 Mystx team for their participation in some recorded sessions and interviews. Ian said, "They were tremendous this fall while I was absent for a few weeks and having to complete these assignments. They were rock stars!" Congrats, Ian!
We would also like to congratulate Alex Waite, current U11 and U12 Magic coach, Vincent Kramolowski, current U15 and U17 Metro Boys coach, and Nelson Hernandez, current U10 travel team and PDP coach, for earning their USSF "D" License.
