And the 2020 Winners Are...

A new year means a new start, new beginnings, and new opportunities. It also means that Hudson Link's Spring Benefit Dinner  is just around the corner!

Our annual Spring Benefit Dinner is a chance to celebrate the achievements of our students and alumni, to recognize the hard work of our staff and supporters, and to ensure the future of higher education in prison. As in years past, it is also an opportunity to honor two very special award recipients.

The Bill Webber Community Service Award is given every year to an individual or an organization that uses their social influence to positively impact communities affected by mass incarceration or the criminal justice system as a whole.

Hudson Link is excited to announce that the  2020 Bill Webber Community Service Award will be presented to John Forte.  A Grammy-winning performer, composer, and producer, Forte is best known for his work with the hip hop group The Fugees. After his incarceration and subsequent sentence commutation by President George W. Bush, he used his art as a tool of social activism, promoting criminal justice and sentencing reform and empowering the children of incarcerated parents through his work with an organization called  In Arms Reach Hudson Link is thrilled to honor Mr. Forte for his work and dedication as an outspoken force for change in this field.

The 2020 Brian S. Fischer Award, given each year to a formerly incarcerated community leader, will be awarded to activist and organizer  Reverend Demetrius Jifunza. This award will celebrate Jifunza for his work and dedication restoring voting rights to formerly incarcerated men and women in Florida. His efforts toward the successful passage of Amendment 4 has impacted the lives of 1.4 million Floridians with criminal records. As President of the Sarasota branch of the NAACP, vice chair of CAN Community Health, and founder of the Florida Rights Restoration Coalition, Jifunza has demonstrated the power a formerly incarcerated person can have when they dedicate their life to service and civic engagement. We are excited to honor this inspiring activist at our Spring Benefit Dinner, as well as host him to meet with Hudson Link students later this spring.

If you are as excited about this event as we are, consider joining the Benefit Committee today. This important group of supporters help us ensure that every dollar raised at the Spring Benefit Dinner goes directly to the service of our students and alumni.

We can't wait to see you May 7th in New York City. Secure your place today!
