May 8, 2019 - Walking Together in Faith
Compassion - Our Lady of Fatima
Dear St. Isidore Families,

“Motherhood is a million little moments that God weaves together with grace, redemption, laughter, tears and, most of all, love.” – Lysa TerKeurst, author

Happy Mother's Day! Mothers are the women who guide you, encourage your dreams, and believe in you even when you don’t believe in yourself. They inspire you and love you unconditionally. A mother can take many forms: some are given to you at birth, and some come into your life just when you need them most. All are equally amazing. I wish all moms a wonderful and special day!

Teachers are ROCKSTARS
This week is Teachers Appreciation Week! SIS is truly blessed to have so many fantastic teachers and staff who come to school each day with the primary goal of helping your children grow and learn. I know firsthand that teaching is more than a job—it is the desire to help children be the best they can possibly be. Teachers, I truly appreciate all you do!

Staff Updates
It is the time of year when changes in our faculty and staff for next year are announced. Change is inevitable every year and in every school. Some of these changes are sad, but others are very exciting. Ultimately, I support my staff in their decisions and wish them the very best of luck and the greatest of success in all their endeavors. I will keep you informed if any other changes occur.

Several of our long-standing staff members are leaving to embark on the next step of their journey: retirement. I am extremely grateful for their many years of service to
St. Isidore School.

The following staff members are retiring:

Mrs. Kittie Bobich: Mrs. Bobich’s journey at SIS began as a school parent 25 years ago as her son, Michael, entered Kindergarten, followed by her daughters, Ellen and Laura. After 15 years as a school parent, she joined the SIS staff in 2007. After four years as an IA, she jumped back into the career she began in 1980 as a 2nd Grade teacher. She has served SIS as a 2nd Grade teacher for eight years. Her passion has always been teaching children about a forgiving and loving God through the sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist.

Ms. Pat Crossen: Ms.Crossen has been part of St. Isidore School for 41 years. She has served the school well as the school Band Director and as an office staffer. Her deep love of music has inspired thousands of kids to read and play music. She has led countless band concerts and personally played at numerous Veterans Day ceremonies. Ms. Crossen is known for her quick wit, sense of humor, and love of all things Oakland A’s. Her last band concert will take place on Wednesday, May 22, at 6:00 p.m. We hope you can join us and invite any previous band members.

Mrs. JoeAnne Doyle: Mrs. Doyle has been a dedicated member of our Resource Department for 15 years. She has helped countless students develop and progress academically. She has brought heartfelt passion and commitment to our program, and she is a wealth of knowledge with her extensive background. Mrs. Doyle was originally a school parent at SIS. Her son and daughter started SIS when it opened in 1962. Several of her grandchildren have also attended.

Mrs. Susan Esposito: Our wonderful Mrs. Susan Esposito began her teaching career in 1975, 44 years ago! Her career at SIS began in 1996 as a Kindergarten Teacher. In Kindergarten, Mrs. Esposito found her forever home. She truly is our “Queen of Kindergarten.” She loves teaching children about their faith and watching them grow in their  "Love for God", "Knowledge of God", and "Service to God". Mrs. Esposito also spent time as a parent at SIS as her son, Rob, and daughter, Gina, are SIS alumni.

Mrs. Bonnie Kilzer: Mrs. Kilzer is known to many as the lady who knows it all. She came to SIS 22 years ago as a 1st Grade Instructional Assistant. After a few years, she found her home in the office as the SIS Plant Manager. She is known to many as the key master, the closet keeper, and the room booker. She has handled an endless list of responsibilities.

We will be honoring our retirees in a celebration after the 4 o’clock mass on June 1. Look for more information to come.

The following staff members will be moving on to different opportunities. I am grateful for their service to our school and will miss their smiling faces: Mrs. Karin Boyle, Kindergarten Teacher; Mr. Miller, 7th Grade Teacher; Ms. Ellis, 6th Grade Teacher/Instructional Assistant; Mr. Pringle, PE Teacher; Mr. Roman, Instructional Assistant.

The following changes have been put in place for next school year: 4th Grade teacher Miss Johnson will move to Kindergarten; Mrs. Phillips will succeed Miss Johnson in 4th Grade; Mrs. Downey will succeed Mrs. Bobich in 2nd Grade; and Ms. Jaskot will succeed Mr. Miller in 7th Grade. I will keep you updated about any future changes.

Fun Run
You could clearly see the excitement on the students’ faces at Monday’s morning assembly as the Fun Run team explained how the event works and what prizes can be won. The students also found out their class theme for the day of the run (details below in the Fun Run section) . As mentioned last week, proceeds from this fundraiser will go towards courtyard/playground updates. Thank you for your support!

Allergy Awareness
The FAACT (Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Connection Team) estimate that as many as 15 million Americans, including 6 million children, are affected by a food allergy. Many in our community are personally affected by allergies. Allergy Awareness Week is 12–18 May. In honor of Allergy Awareness Monday, May 13 will be a Free Dress Day for students. Students should dress in teal/free dress bottoms (NO sports shorts/leggings).

Please join us at an all-school Mass this Friday, May 10, at 8:10 a.m., as we celebrate our second graders who recently celebrated the Sacrament of First Holy Communion. It is always heartwarming to see the excitement on their sweet faces as they celebrate Communion with the school community for the first time.

Have a wonderful rest of the week and a lovely Mother’s Day weekend!

God bless,

Maria Ward, Principal

Mr. Miller has a heart of gold! Over the weekend our 7th grade teacher,
Mr. Miller noticed a seagull with a broken wing struggling on the beach. He immediately contacted Animal Control Services and was put in contact with an animal hospital that could help. Mr. Miller picked up the bird, wrapped it in his sweatshirt, walked two miles back to his car with the bird in his arms, and then drove the bird to the animal hospital. Mr. Miller, thank you for going above and beyond to help this poor little bird.

Tips for Parents: The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that children not specialize in a single sport before adolescence, lest they be denied the benefits of varied activity while facing additional physical, physiological, and psychological demands from intense training and competition.
