2021 50th Anniversary Builders' Showcase of Homes/
New www.cccia.org Issue
November 2020
Now, more than ever, the CCCIA is here to help.

Dear CCCIA Members:

As we close out the year, we must ask the question, what can/will happen next? We were treated to a late season tropical storm; we survived the most contentious Presidential Election of our time and there is still 6 weeks of the year. No doubt 2020 will be one for the record books on so many levels.

October was our first in person Dinner Meeting since the Covid-19 shutdown. We had the privilege of meeting the new Cape Coral City Manager, Rob Hernandez. In his presentation, he shared his experiences in other markets and how he can use that knowledge to enhance the appeal of Cape Coral for current and future residence and businesses.

The November CCCIA Dinner Meeting on November 12th featured one of our most popular topics. The Contractors Round Table Discussion. We were honored to have Donovan Dugan of Poseidon Homes, Matt Sinclair of Sinclair Custom Homes, Jeremy Sposato of Sposen Signature Homes, and Vince Cartelli from Christopher Alan Homes. Our MC was Ed Ramos with Ramos Builders. They covered the events of 2020 and what they expect in 2021. The future is bright in Cape Coral. It is a great time to be a part of the CCCIA.

November 6th, we held the 2nd annual Preferred Material Clay Shoot Out at the Bermont Shooting Club in Punta Gorda. It was our first “event” of 2020 due to COVID-19. It really was a perfect day. We want to thank our sponsors, shooting teams and volunteers for coming out! TriCircle Pavers donated a firepit valued at $500! There were raffle prizes and 50/50 Cash. Everyone had a wonderful time and left with new friends and great prizes. Please join us next year for this exciting outdoor event.

2021 is the 50th anniversary of the CCCIA. We recently published the 50th anniversary CCCIA Builders’ Showcase of Homes Marketing Proposal packet. This is an excellent opportunity for your company to acknowledge what the CCCIA means to you AND advertise to 70K in print and so many more via electronic media. Prices start at $350 for an eighth of a page. Call Dawn or Janis at the CCCIA office to discuss.

Lastly, a busy winter season is coming up. Remember, with the increased population we are/will be seeing increased exposure of COVID-19. There are still many risks. Please willingly set a good example for others and comply with businesses Mandatory MASK policies and social distancing. We still have a way to go. Please continue to use good judgement, be smart and be SAFE!
Regards,
Marty McClain, EnviroStruct, LLC.
2019- 2020 CCCIA President

The EYES Have it!
Our communication is now amplified by our eyes.
With a face mask as the new standard in our wardrobes these days, they filter out the smile, frown, gasp, wow expressions that we all use each day. Our communication is now amplified by our eyes, and our tone of voice to get our words delivered and understood.

A brief example is how a 6-month-old baby uses his/her eyes to communicate their feelings as their main source of getting their point across. Crying would be their verbal skill most in use.

Our eyes deliver great body language, as they have in the past, but now let's take a fresh look (cheap pun) at what our eyes are saying as our words are being spoken.

  • Looking up = A Visual thinker
  • Looking down = Power and dominance
  • Looking sideways = Checking, reviewing credibility of what they just heard
  • Gazing = Shows positive interest toward person, charts, examples
  • Glancing = Glancing at a door could be interpreted as a desire to leave
  • Eye Contact = Displays acknowledgment and shows interest
  • Breaking Eye Contact = Dissatisfied or discomfort with message

There are dozens more expressions that are revealed by our eyes, and with a bit more attention, we can better understand each other with amplified clarity.

In conclusion, our eyes are at times screaming a message, and at other times they are silent, and calming. Both are a solid form of communication.

Perhaps we should take a bit more time and effort to be more aware of what our eyes are communicating, or not communicating.

4 Common Contractor Questions & The Answers You Need
A consultant's advice for solving problems
Being a construction business owner today is an extremely difficult responsibility. With changing economic conditions, employment requirements and safety concerns, as well as aggressive competition, a tight labor market and material shortages and delays, it’s tough to make business decisions with certainty.
As a business coach, I get lots of calls for help from business owners. And the questions I receive have never been so diverse as they have been lately. The following are some of these questions I’ve received in the last few weeks, and some advice for handling each of them.

CCCIA - Industry Update

Members & Friends,

I hope this message finds you all well. November is on track to one of our busiest months this year.

Our November Dinner meeting was held on November 12th and we would like to thank all the members who attended in person and virtually. Moderator Ed Ramos from Ramos Builders led a panel of experts in our annual Contractors Roundtable. Our panel gave our membership a look into how the industry has performed since the onset of COVID 19 and what they have had to do deal with both supply increases and an increased demand for new homes. We did learn at the November 12th meeting that in the month of October there were 354 Single Family Home Permits issued. This has been the highest number issued since April of 2006.

The CCCIA is partnering with the Lee BIA to hold a Code Class on Wednesday December 9th. We are currently working on the flyer to get out to our membership. This class will cover all the major code changes in the upcoming 7th edition 2020 Florida Building Code. These changes will take effect on December 31st at midnight, so make sure you get your permit packages in.

Finally, our 2021 CCCIA Builders Showcase of Homes event is in full swing. This event will take place the last two weekends in January and the first weekend in February. With 2021 being our 50th anniversary, we are looking forward to great event to highlight our Contractors and 50 years of service in our community. You can go to our website www.cccia.org for more information.

As always, if you know of anyone who could benefit from membership in the CCCIA we gladly welcome the referral. We have been the watchdog for the industry for the last 49 years and have accomplished much for our membership in that time. We are as only strong as our members and without your support, we could not do what we do.

I wish you all success! Please stay safe.

Respectfully,
Bill Johnson, Jr, IOM
