Earn $250 by referring a new bus driver:
Emporia Public Schools needs bus drivers for the 2019-20 school year. This is a perfect opportunity for people who are retired or who want flexibility in their schedule and school days off. USD 253 employees can earn a $250 referral bonus when new bus drivers include the district employee's name on their employment application. The $250 referral bonus will arrive after the driver has been on the job for six months. Additionally, new drivers will receive a $250 bonus on their first paycheck and another $250 bonus once training and CDL endorsement are complete. Payroll Direct Deposit
If you are needing to update your direct deposit account, those changes need to be made in person with Payroll at Mary Herbert Education Center. Emporia Public Schools Staff Recognition Save the date:
On May 15th at Emporia High School, the district will be recognizing staff members who are retiring as well as those who have worked for Emporia Public Schools for fifteen, twenty-five, or thirty-five years. Refreshments will be available at 5:00 pm with the recognition program beginning at 5:30 pm. All staff are welcome to attend.

Gifted students enjoy their time at Mary Herbert Education Center participating in the Flint Hills Special Education Gifted Expo. Students shared their individual projects and collaborated together in a variety of educational activities.
Board Updates

Dr. Britton Hart, EHS Principal, Joy Haegert, EHS Counselor, and Wade Redeker, Executive Director of Secondary Education shared data related to Emporia High School's progress with Kansans Can Outcomes. The team shared data points on Social-Emotional Learning, Individual Plan of Study, Graduation Rates and Postsecondary Success which are four of the five pillars for Kansans Can.

Zach Snethen of HTK Architects, provided a summary of needs assessment feedback that has been collected from both the community and building meetings with USD 253 staff. The feedback will allow for clarification on specific details as the district proceeds with refining and clarifying the scope of work for each building.

Dustin Avey, managing director with Piper Jaffray reviewed the bond financial plan that has been developed to address the building needs identified from the district facilities needs assessment. Avey also answered questions and provided a
taxpayer cost analysis for Lyon County property owners.

Gina Riekhof of Gilmore and Bell was present to answer any final questions regarding the formal action to start the legal process for holding a bond election on September 5, 2019. She recommended the board adopt
Resolution 2019-7 authorizing and providing for the calling of a bond election for USD 253.
