As Nursing Week 2019 comes to a close we would like to honour all of the hard working nurses of our past and present, who's care and compassion have made a difference in the lives of our patients for the past century.

Wounded Warriors and Ontario Shores Partnership
Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences (Ontario Shores) and Wounded Warriors Canada are proud to announce a new partnership to support Ontario's public safety personnel (police, fire, paramedics, correctional workers, dispatchers) and their families.
Wounded Warriors Canada and Ontario Shores are creating a joint clinical services partnership that will connect public safety personnel to mental health programs and services offered by both organizations.

Farming
Over the last 100 years Ontario Shores has been constantly evolving. At one point, the hospital operated a large farm. Jordon Beenen, one of our Ambassadors of Hope, takes us back to a different time as we continue Celebrating a Century of Care.

Buildings
Over the course of the century our buildings and grounds have undergone our most visible changes. Today, only one of the original buildings is still standing. Ambassador of Hope Ian Hakes walks us through these historical changes.

Ontario Shores' Century of Care speaker series features stories and topics that celebrate recovery, embrace our history and imagine the future in the months leading up to the hospital's 100th anniversary on October 23, 2019.

Candice McAlister
Candice has always had a passion for volunteering and sought out the opportunity to be an Ambassador of Hope due to the impact of mental illness on her family.
Having grown up with a family member diagnosed with Schizophrenia, Candice remembers the devastation the illness and the stigma surrounding it brought her brother and their parents. She also witnessed his recovery during his time as a patient at Ontario Shores and is buoyed by the mental health movement that is normalizing mental illness.

Lori Lane-Murphy
Lori Lane Murphy, one of six people recently named as an Ambassador of Hope, kicked off the speaker series with her inspiring presentation on mental illness.
Lori is a speaker, facilitator, author, comedian, and podcaster who has known the impact of mental illness since she was a child.

Jordon Beenen
Jordon is a stay-at-home father with a desire to advocate for people living with mental illness.
His interest in advocacy dates back to his days at Queen's University and his involvement in its Human Rights Centre. Jordon's experience as an outpatient at Ontario Shores has reignited his desire to advocate.
Now, as someone living with mental illness who had to change course in his career, Jordon feels strongly about removing the stigma associated with mental health issues and is determined to make a difference.
Jordon lives in Oshawa with his wife Jennifer and son Dax. Along with a passion for helping others, Jordon is a movie buff and fan of all Toronto sports teams.

Call for Artists for Juried Art Show
Ontario Shores is 'Celebrating a Century of Care' with a juried art show as it prepares to turn 100 on Wednesday, October 23, 2019.
During the months of July and August Ontario Shores will welcome works of art that connect with mental illness, mental health, recovery and the hospital's history of providing care from its site in Whitby, Ontario.
'Celebrating a Century of Care' is an open-ended and versatile theme steeped in history and emotions that will surely ignite diverse, thoughtful responses.
