By-election Results
The Town of Paradise held a By-election on Thursday, May 9 to fill a Councillor position. Paradise operates under an "at-large" system in which its elected officials are chosen to represent the Town as a whole.

A total of four candidates for councillor were nominated. Kimberley Street was elected and the full results are below.

Summer Camp Registration Opens Monday
Paradise Summer Day Camp is a fun and enjoyable way for children to spend summer. Town Summer Camps are held at the Rotary Paradise Youth and Community Centre (RPYCC) in the Paradise Double Ice Complex and Paradise Elementary School. 

The 2019 program runs from July 2 to August 24, and is offered to families for the entire summer, or on a weekly basis. This summer we have organized activities that are fun, social and educational. Each camp will have different outings every week including a swimming day and planned theme days, with games, crafts, presentations and more. 

The Camps include:
  • Camp Caboodle: attending Grades 1 or 2 in September
  • Camp Wahoo: attending Grades 3 or 4 in September
  • Camp Excursion: attending Grades 5, 6 or 7 in September

Summer Day Camp online registration takes place from May 13 - 17 beginning at 12 p.m. each day. Registration is camp and location specific so please ensure that you register for the correct camp location. Registration dates:

  • Monday, May 13: Camp Caboodle (RPYCC location)
  • Tuesday, May 14: Camp Caboodle / Wahoo (Paradise Elementary location)
  • Wednesday, May 15: Camp Wahoo (RPYCC location)
  • Thursday, May 16: Camp Excursion (PRYCC location)
  • Friday, May 17: Camp Excursion (Paradise Elementary location).

SunSplash Sponsorship
The Town is looking for sponsors for our SunSplash Paddle in Paradise festival happening August 11 to 18. SunSplash includes popular annual community events like Family Fun Day, the Paddle in Paradise Dragon Boat Festival, Outdoor Movie Night, and our Concert in Paradise Park.

Victoria Day Closures and Schedule Changes
The first long weekend of the summer is just around the corner. In observance of the Victoria Day Holiday on Monday, May 20, the following closures and schedule changes are in place:
  • Town Hall, the Paradise Double Ice Complex and the Rotary Paradise Youth and Community Centre are closed on Monday (including the BodyQuest Fitness Centre).
  • Garbage and Recycling Collection moves ahead one day for next week. Please visit our garbage page for the full schedule
Curby Clean-up Month
With spring here and the snow gone, we need your help to get our Town in tip top shape! This year, we're making May  Curby Clean-Up Month, and we have already seen some great submissions! Over the next few weeks, residents, groups and businesses are invited to join in and help out as we get our neighbourhoods, school areas, business locations, trails and open spaces in tip top shape. Gloves, bags and sticks will are available for residents to use on request and can be picked up at the Paradise Double Ice Complex.

If you or a group would like to take part please email to and let us know when and where you would like to clean. You can also register a date by calling 709-782-6290. After your clean up is complete the Town will come by and pick up what was collected.
And don't forget to show us all your great work -post your photos on social media, tagging the Town and use #curbycleanup!

Curby Clean-up Appreciation Event (May 25)
  
On Saturday, May 25 we will host a Curby Clean-up Appreciation event to show our thanks to all who did their part and helped us keep Paradise clean. The celebration will include prizes, fun activities and a free BBQ. This event will be held from 2 - 4 p.m. in the Ches Penney Youth Centre at the Paradise Double Ice Complex.
Bulk Garbage Season
Bulk garbage and metal collection has started for 2019. Households are permitted one free bulk and metal collection per year. An additional collection of each is also available at a cost of $25 (HST included) per collection. It is done by appointment only, please contact Waste Management at 782-3577 to schedule a pick-up. Please note that separate appointments are needed for both types of pick-ups and therefore, metal should not be placed with bulk garbage.
