The above ground phase of the project began in earnest this week when crews meticulously poured and smoothed the first vestiges of new concrete on Old Woodward, north of Maple. Weather permitting, the concrete paving is anticipated to continue on Saturday (6-2-18) as crews start pouring concrete on Maple Rd.
Meanwhile, major progress continues toward the final removal and replacement of the tired underground infrastructure in the project work zone. Work on the new main line sewer on Old Woodward is expected to be finished by this weekend.
Looking ahead to next week, contractors plan to connect a handful of buildings on Old Woodward, south of Maple to the new sewer system. Once those connections are completed, all of the sewer work on the project will be done. Also by the end of next week, all left turn lanes and parking bays are expected to be completed on the north part of the project, including all of Maple Rd.
With a targeted completion date of early August, the underground infrastructure improvements and the above ground enhancements on Old Woodward will result in a modernized downtown core that City residents, merchants, stakeholders and visitors will be proud of and enjoy for decades to come. In the meantime, the public is encouraged to visit downtown and see the transformation first-hand while supporting city merchants. As a reminder, free parking in all City parking structures is now available on weekends (Saturday and Sunday) along with four, two-hour free valet parking stands strategically located near the outer edges of the construction zone.
