Bailey Coach Celebrates New Location

The Bailey Family (Facebook image)
After six months of construction, Bailey Coach hosted an open house at its new 15,500 foot office and maintenance facility on Tuesday, April 23, 2019.

The three generation family business is proud to move its business to Spring Grove. PA as John Bailey, the company President, states that his parents moved to Spring Grove after returning home from serving their country during and after WWII in the late 1940's when housing was very scarce and his parents, Captain Fred J. Bailey and Lieutenant Melna F. Bailey, could not find a home in the York area. Bailey commented it's good to employ 65 people in his home town of Spring Grove PA.

Bailey showcased the latest state-of-the-art motorcoaches with features as Wi-Fi for 55 passengers, USB port at all seats, 6 position safety cameras on all coaches and satellite tracking of the motorcoaches.

BUS4NYC Launch

GNJMA has been a proponent of the BUS4NYC coalition and recently made a monetary donation to show support.  The group held their first official meeting at the Penn Club in NYC on April 25, 2019.  Several GNJMA Board members attended the meeting, including Tom Taylor (Lakeland Bus), Jonathan DeCamp (DeCamp Bus) and Pattie Cowley, Executive Director of the GNJMA.   Other members sent representatives including Trans-Bridge, Tonche Transit and Greyhound.  The staff of Nicholas & Lence, the hired communication firm managing the coalition activities, organized and facilitated the meeting.

The objective of the meeting was to officially launch the coalition now that it is funded.  Mike Horak, Board Chair and Glenn Every, President (of the coalition), opened up the meeting and welcomed the 20 (approximate) attendees to the meeting.  The agenda included policy agenda and updates on topics such as congestion pricing, DOT proposed double parking rule, dedicated parking and bus lanes, citizen's complaints on idling and layover rules for buses without passengers.

The group also addressed potential face-to-face meetings with government officials and civic/trade organizations and outlined the strategy for media outreach and expanding membership.

President Trump and Congressional Leadership Agree on $2 Trillion Infrastructure Package

The news outlets are abuzz about President Trump, along with Senate and House leadership, agreeing to a $2 trillion infrastructure bill. That's the easy part. Everyone, including operators of buses and motorcoaches, wants our nation to have the infrastructure we need to build a prosperous future. However, the real question is where is the $2 trillion going to come from in a nation with a $22 trillion national debt? The solution generally rests with some spending cuts in other areas, re-prioritization of projects, and (gulp) fuel tax increases.    Read more...
International Roadcheck, Prepare To Stop June 4-6

Attention Motor Carriers & Drivers! Steering and suspension systems will get special attention during this year's Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance's (CVSA) International Roadcheck, w hich will take place June 4-6, 2019. International Roadcheck is the largest targeted enforcement program of commercial motor vehicles in the world, with nearly 17 trucks or buses inspected, on average, every minute in the United States, Canada, and Mexico over the three-day period.

During the event, inspectors will primarily conduct the North American Standard Level I Inspections, a 37-step procedure that includes an examination of both driver operating requirements and vehicle mechanical fitness. Commercial vehicle drivers will need to provide all operating credentials such as their driver's license and endorsements, medical examiner's certificate, hours-of-service documentation and record of duty status (RODS) per  Part 395, 49 CFR 395.8(a) . Additionally, drivers will be checked for seat belt usage, and enforcement officers will be looking for any signs of sickness, fatigue and alcohol and/or drug impairment.

If an inspector finds no critical inspection item violations during an inspection, a CVSA decal will be applied to the vehicle, indicating that the vehicle successfully passed a decal-eligible inspection. If critical inspection items violations are found, an inspector may render the driver or vehicle out of service if the condition meets the  North American Out-of-Service Criteria . This means that the driver cannot operate the vehicle until the violation(s) are corrected.

Make sure your vehicles are ready for International Roadcheck, by reviewing the following resources:
