April 19, 2018   Emmanuel's E-News
Greetings from
Emmanuel Episcopal Church!

This Sunday is the Fourth Sunday of Easter.

Rev. Ellen will celebrate and Deacon Bill will preach.

We look forward to seeing you in church!

Why is the Easter Season 50 Days Long?

Easter for Christians is not just one day, but rather a 50-day period. The season of Easter, or Eastertide, begins at sunset on the eve of Easter and ends on Pentecost, the day we celebrate the gift of the Holy Spirit and the birth of the Church (see Acts 2).

Easter is also more than just an extended celebration of the resurrection of Jesus. In the early church, Lent was a season for new converts to learn about the faith and prepare for baptism on Easter Sunday. The initial purpose of the 50-day Easter season was to continue the faith formation of new Christians.

Today, this extended season gives us time to rejoice and experience what it means when we say Christ is risen. It's the season when we remember our baptisms and how through this sacrament we are, according to the liturgy, "incorporated into Christ's mighty acts of salvation."

As "Easter people," we also celebrate and ponder the birth of the Church and gifts of the Spirit (Pentecost), and how we are to live as faithful disciples of Christ.

kensingtonThe Kensington Market

Emmanuel Episcopal Church is very excited to be announcing our new spring event, The Kensington Market.  Emmanuel will once again be filled with vendors, patrons and parishioners all coming together to enjoy the many beautiful artisan booths.

Although we will not be hosting our annual antique show, we are proud of this new event and the vendors that will be filling our beloved space with their unique artisan goods!  Two things that definitely remain for this year's event are our delectable dining experiences and home baked goods.

Market Dates & Times:
Saturday April 28th, 2018
10 am - 6 pm
Admission : $6.00 per person

Kensington Market Q & A

Q:  How can I support Emmanuel's Kensington Market this year?
A:   Here's how!
  • by way of The Giving Tree (which replaces the Patron's List)
  • by helping with the volunteer efforts
  • by supporting the Baker's Shelf by donating and/or purchasing delicious baked goods
  • by coming to the event during the day and/or the Pub Night to relax and unwind and enjoy the fellowship which we have created
The Giving Tree will be at the back of the church along with the sign-up sheet for volunteering.

Thank you for supporting our Kensington Market!

Alzheimer's disease is becoming more and more prevalent as the elderly population increases, and many people are caring for a loved one with the disease, or they may be a caregiver. This is not a professional conference, but rather an education retreat.
