Dear Ovation Program Musicians and Families,

I hope that you are all doing well and that you had a very nice holiday weekend.

I am writing with a reminder of our schedule for our required Ovation ensemble rehearsal on Thursday May 31 and our special concert in Balboa Park on Friday June 1. The schedule for you is shown below.
Thursday May 31
Room 207 in Balboa Park

Rehearsal Call Time 5:45pm
6:00pm -7:45pm - Symphony Orchestra (including Saxophones)
7:45pm - 8:10pm-Wind Orchestra (including Saxophones)
8:20pm - 9pm-Chamber Orchestra

Friday June 1
Special Concert in Balboa Park

CALL TIME 5:15pm - Room 102 Downstairs Casa Del Prado

Please remember to arrive in formal concert dress
Please report to Room 102 in the courtyard downstairs in the Casa Del Prado in Balboa Park. After check in we will all walk to the Museum of Art together for our sound check.

Warm up and Sound Check - Museum of Art Auditorium
5:30pm-6:45pm

Concert: 7:00pm - 8:15pm

Please remember to bring all of your music, rockstops, and all needed accessories with you when you arrive to Balboa Park.

I am looking forward to seeing you all at 5:45pm on Thursday May 31 for our rehearsal and at 5:15pm on Friday June 1 in formal SDYS Concert Dress for our Special Concert in Balboa Park.

Volunteer Opportunities
Audition Runners!

Ovation students , would you like to volunteer as an audition runner for the upcoming auditions? As an audition runner you will be asked to communicate between conductors, administrative staff and students to make sure each person is ready when they are called from the warm-up room to their audition room. You will also be assisting young students with tuning their instruments as needed.
Audition Check-In Volunteers!

SDYS is currently in need of an army of volunteer parents to help with auditions! As a volunteer parent, you will be asked to welcome students and their families as they arrive to their scheduled auditions and direct them to their warm-up room prior to their audition times.
June 9 Concert Call Times
We are quickly approaching the end of year concert on Saturday, June 9 and June 10 at Copley Symphony Hall. Please note your ensemble's specific concert and rehearsal times listed below. 

Important:  There will be regular rehearsals on Saturday, June 9 for Ovation students only, but no regular rehearsals on Sunday, June 10 in Balboa Park.
Dress rehearsals are an important part of the concert preparation experience for students so that they adjust to new acoustics in the concert hall. 

SDYS provides musicians with call times so they can acclimate to the exciting environment on concert day with peers, and so SDYS staffers will know in advance that the entire ensemble is present and ready for an exciting evening of music making! This is why all students are required to arrive at their respective call times.

Concert Attire 

Concert attire is the visual representation of the artistic excellence we present on stage. Therefore students are not permitted to perform at the concert without appropriate concert attire.


Ladies, please make sure your dress is below your knees and that you have on black stockings/tights. No bare shoulders or backless tops.
Recommended Parking
The Jacobs Music Center is located on B Street between 7th and 8th Avenue. The backstage door where you will drop off and pick up your musicians is located on 8th Avenue between A and B Street. 

There is no stopped parking allowed at the backstage door. Curb fronts are reserved for active loading and unloading only.

Donate an Instrument
We are accepting wind and string instruments that will all be going to conservatory and community 
students that need them. You can drop them off Monday - Friday during regular business hours, or 
on the weekends during rehearsals.

We have an immediate need for trombones!

Kudos!
Susan Lee (Ovation Program) won first place at the 2018 H.B. Goodlin Competition in the Senior Instrumental Division. She was awarded the June and Chet Schmidt Award.

International Music Sessions
