Summer is finally in full bloom and we are warming up to the new season, stretching our limbs and lifting our faces to the sun. Our children are graduating and moving into the next chapters, and with that brings the bittersweet moment of change. There are many young friends that we will miss seeing here in the bookstore, as we have happily watched them grow through the years. Come in and see what advice we have collected for them in the form of books, gifts and journals to send them on their way. But just know that we expect to see their familiar faces again whenever they return!

We also celebrate fathers this month and their roles in our lives. I had no better coach to prepare me for this world than my dad, and I know the same is true for many of you. He was pure joy. He had a passion for learning and reading. His interests ranged from history, biography, sports, finance, and literary fiction, as well as the tried and true crime dramas and suspenseful thrillers that many of us love. It was with our own dads in mind that we have assembled some great ideas for your Father's Day gifts.

Finally, on any given day, if you follow the noise in the bookstore, it will likely bring you to the children's section, as these youngest (and most delightful) of our customers often beat all the competition to make the most noise. These days however, when you make your way to the children's section it might be hammers or saws that you hear, competing with the lovely chatter of the kids. We are in the midst of an expansion of the children's section, as we believe that our kids need more space to explore the most interesting books in the store. Expect to see more of your favorites, as well as new selections coming out every day. We also have toys and gifts that encourage learning and participation. And our unicorn table is not to be missed! We expect to be moved in to the bigger space before the end of the month, so please come in and explore these happy changes to your community bookstore! ~ Jane

Join us when we welcome back Seattle author Nicola Griffith (Hild ) when she talks about her new book So Lucky. This is fiction from the front lines, incandescent and urgent, a narrative juggernaut that rips through sentiment to expose the savagery of America's treatment of the disabled and chronically ill. So Lucky also blazes with hope and a ferocious love of self, of the life that becomes possible when we stop believing lies. Griffith is the multiple-award-winning author of several novels, including Hild. A native of Yorkshire, England - now a dual U.S./U.K. citizen - she is a onetime self-defense instructor who turned to writing full-time upon being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.

We are welcoming back Jonathan White for for a lively conversation on the tides that rule the oceans and inspire our imagination, with the paperback release of his 2018 Pacific Northwest Book Award winner, Tides, the Science and Spirit of the Ocean. This event is co-hosted with the Kitsap Audubon Society. Tides won the Pacific Northwest Booksellers Association's Best Book Award, a National Outdoor Book Award, the IBPA Benjamin Franklin Silver Award, and has been nominated for a Washington State Book Award, as well as others. It is currently being considered for a BBC film.

Eagle Harbor Books travels to the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art to host a presentation of Unnatural Selection , a book by renowned British nature illustrator and natural historian Katrina van Grouw. With a unique fusion of art, science, and history, Unnatural Selection is a lavishly and stunningly illustrated book about selective breeding - the ongoing transformation of animals at the hand of man. More important, it's a book about selective breeding on a far, far grander scale--a scale that encompasses all life on Earth. We'd call it evolution.
