Why is Village Hall's Phone Ringing?
|
|
Is the Village hiring Community Service Officers (CSO)?
- Yes! A CSO enforces municipal ordinances that relate to parking, animals, and code enforcement. They assist police officers at accident scenes and help with clerk duties at the front desk. This is a great job for young people (18 years of age or older) who have an interest in, or a curiosity, about policing. The application is on the Village website. This is a part time job that pays $14.39 per hour, approximately 20 hours a week.

Street Improvements - Coming Soon:

2019 Lake Drive Improvements:
Improvements to Lake Drive are coming this summer! The Village Board approved as a part of the 2019 Village Budget the resurfacing of the entire length of Lake Drive within the Village limits. The existing pavement has severely deteriorated following the last pavement resurfacing over 25 years ago.
The resurfacing will take place sometime during the months of June-August. This 2019 Lake Drive resurfacing project will also precede planned 2020 Lake Drive pedestrian and bicyclist safety improvements utilizing 90% federal and state funding.
We encourage all motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians to use care when around this and all roadway and utility construction projects!

5th Annual Memorial Day Ceremony:
|
|
Save the date! The community is cordially invited to Whitefish Bay’s 5th Annual Memorial Day Ceremony, sponsored by the Whitefish Bay Civic Foundation.
The ceremony will be an opportunity for Veterans to connect with one another and for the community to honor our country’s fallen service members. The event will also give Whitefish Bay families a way to teach children the meaning behind Memorial Day and to witness traditional military customs.
This year’s keynote speaker will be Mr. Christopher Miorin, a U.S. Army combat veteran who served as an infantry platoon leader during Operation Iraqi Freedom, executive officer for the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery, and as an Aide to the President of the United States. Mr. Miorin was awarded the Bronze Star Medal and the Combat Infantryman’s Badge for his service and is a graduate of the U.S. Army Ranger School.

Save the date! You are invited!
The staff and seventh grade students at Whitefish Bay Middle School cordially invite all Village residents to their annual Human Ecology Exposition. Each year in the Human Ecology Unit, seventh graders self-select a topic of exploration about which they are passionate.
Topics include social justice issues, environmental problems, global concerns, and much more. Our unit culminates in creating and presenting collaborative projects to an audience. This exhibition is a signature event in seventh grade, and students are very excited about it.
This year’s Human Ecology Exposition is on Friday, May 17, from 1:15-2:45 PM in the Seventh Grade Commons of the Middle School. If you are able to attend, please bring your driver’s license for our security system. We would love to see you there!

You Can't Take It With You Premiers !
One of the most popular and successful plays of modern times, YOU CAN'T TAKE IT WITH YOU is sure to please audience members of any age. Winner of the Pulitzer Prize (unusual for a comedy), the play was written by George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart at the height of their writing careers.
It is the story of the eccentric Sycamore family and friends who simply enjoy life pursuing their individual off-beat passions. When their daughter becomes engaged to someone "normal," this is all that is necessary for a hilarious evening of theater.

North Shore Health Department:
|
|
News from the Health Department:
Did you know? It’s the time of year when everyone is happy to be outside-including mosquitos and the birds that feed on them. West Nile Virus (WNV) is a mosquito-transmitted virus that causes most cases of West Nile infection. Wisconsin tracks the presence of WNV in the state by testing birds—specifically Corvids (crows, blue jays or ravens), which are more likely to die when infected with WNV.
Call the Dead Bird Reporting Hotline (800-433-1610 or 608-837-2727 from a non-WI area code) to report a sick or dead bird, and coordinate West Nile virus testing. The hotline is open from May 1 to October 31 each year. Note that once a county has one positive dead bird result, testing of other dead birds in that county for West Nile virus will be stopped until the next season begins. The North Shore Health department recommends the following tips to prevent mosquito bites:
- Limit time spent outside at dawn and dusk, when mosquitoes are most active.
- Apply insect repellent to clothing as well as exposed skin.
- Ensure window and door screens are in good repair to prevent mosquito entry.
- Limit standing water by properly disposing of items that could hold water, cleaning roof gutters and downspouts, and cleaning and chlorinating swimming pools and hot tubs.
- Trim tall grass, weeds, and vines where mosquitoes collect.
