Scripture Lesson
: 1 Samuel 2:8
Sermon: "Mid-Course Reversals""
This Sunday
This Sunday we'll trace the workings of the Holy Spirit through the millennia, always bringing a reason to believe in the power of God to bring renewal when it's most needed. The symbol of the peacock's tail will be our guide as the peacock's tail feathers are regenerated again each year. Prepare this week by reading Hannah's song in 1 Samuel 2:1-10. It is a song of rebirth, of renewal, even reversals that bring hope to the people of God. On Sunday, we have many ways that we will be celebrating rebirth among us with new members joining, communion, a UMW award, blessing of dresses heading out as part of the Days for Girls project, and honoring our graduates. It's a rebirth kind of season. We will prepare to let go of what has been and look ahead to what the Spirit is inviting in the future.

Stewardship Pledge Card
Thank you to those that have submitted their pledge card. If you have not had a chance to turn in yours yet, please do so by this
Sunday. We ask that you prayerfully consider submitting your pledge so the Finance Team can prepare a budget that supports our staff in their guidance of fulfilling our mission. We hope all those who call Aldersgate their church home will give so that we can fully fund all our ministries, grow in service to others and continue to be a place where love overflows.
Please

Confirmation Corner
We have six youth participating in Confirmation classes this year. Their prayer quilts are hanging in the narthex and will remain there until Confirmation Sunday on June 10th. Please say a prayer for these young people during this spiritual journey and tie a knot in their quilt. You are invited to follow along in this journey with them by reading this Confirmation Corner
This past weekend all 6 of the youth going through confirmation attended the mission trip and confirmation retreat at Lazy F Camp. Between working on projects at the camp, we met for two classes and then held a confirmation campfire on Saturday night.
During classes we went over some pretty big topics such as sin, grace and salvation. We also did an activity around what our image of God is and spent some time focused on Psalm 139. The youth were blindfolded and walked part of the camp both with a guide and without as part of a discussion on trust and being led by the Holy Spirit. The confirmation campfire was a special time where we each shared with each other the attributes, characteristics and stories we appreciate about each member of our group. Although some of us felt a bit uncomfortable hearing positive affirmations, it was powerful, emotional and beautiful.
Please pray for our confirmands; Erin, Michelle, Sofie, Hannah, Harrison, and Justin as they head into their last official class this Sunday June 3. Confirmation Sunday will be June 10th and there will be a reception in between services.
P.S. - I challenge each of you to take a moment this week to share with the people in your life the positive characteristics you see in them and how you appreciate them. We do not take the time to share these affirmations with each other in our daily lives nearly enough yet they are impactful and worth our time.

Crossroads Dinner Update
On the 4th Tuesday of the month Aldersgate serves dinner at the Salvation Army in Bellevue. We thank everyone who has so generously donated and served food this year. Your time, service and donations are greatly appreciated!
- At the May dinner we served 57 men, women and children. The number fed has steadily increased from 40 people last year to 50+ people this year. We served all of the food we brought the last 3 months and we will need to increase the amount if the current trend continues. We are seeing more families and children and many of these people are very hungry. All are very appreciative of our efforts.
-
We are in need of food donations and serving volunteers during the summer months. The upcoming dinners are on June 26, July 24, and August 25. If you can help out with food or serving, please sign up at

Companion Care Givers Needed
There is a United Methodist minister from Wisconsin in treatment at Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA). She has undergone a bone marrow transplant and will need to be in Seattle until July 31. She needs to be watched by a companion care giver thru the day. No medical or personal care is required, she only asks that companions be alert to any changes and call for help in that case. She is staying at Pete Gross House at Republican and Minor- near SCCA, and SCCA staff are always available. Three hour shifts most days are available to relieve family and friends who have been taking the major burden in the first half of her stay. If you can help, please contact Kathy Garner, coordinator at 425-640-2360, [email protected] or Rev. Valerie Fons 920-535-0077 [email protected].

Fairwood UMC celebrates 1 year as Reconciling
Saturday, June 2
This June, Fairwood Community UMC is celebrating one year of being a member of Reconciling Ministries Network, a United Methodist organization that "works for full equality in membership, ordination, and marriage for God's lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender children." On June 2nd FCUMC is celebrating by hosting a potluck for all. FCUMC would like to invite you and your church community to come help commemorate this anniversary, learn from each other, and share in fellowship. It is an opportunity to learn what difference it makes to a church to become reconciling. FCUMC has invited Rev. Dr. Izzy Alvaran, the Western Jurisdiction director for the Reconciling Ministries Network to provide an update on his work and the work of the Commission on a Way Forward, the 32 member commission formed by the United Methodist Council of Bishops to help forge a path forward on the subject of LGBTQ inclusion in the United Methodist Church. The potluck is being hosted at Fairwood Community UMC at 6 PM on June 2nd in Benedict Hall. The address is 15255 SE Fairwood Blvd, Renton, WA 98058.

Bellevue City Council Considers Homelessness on the Eastside
Public Hearing June 11
On April 20, the City of Bellevue released its first draft of the proposed amendments to the Land Use Code (LUC). There will be a series of Council meetings this spring and a public hearing is tentatively scheduled on June 11 during which faith community members will have the opportunity to testify about caring for God's children throughout the community. In preparation for that public hearing, please read the
attached amendments to the Land Use Code and prayerfully consider your own voice in the public dialogue about homeless Bellevue residents and the proposal to situate a homeless shelter in Bellevue.
