Happy Friday Awesome Teachers,

As the first month of 2020 draws to an end, I am encouraged that this new year has brought a renewed sense of hope for our great District. We often hear the phrase  20/20 vision . However, we may not know what that truly means. 20/20 vision is used to express visual acuity (sharpness and clarity) measured at a distance of 20 feet. Some of us wear corrective lenses to ensure we have 20/20 vision to see clearly. When you envision Shelby County Schools at its best, what do you see? What are you saying to uplift our children and school district? Let us speak life as we REIMAGINE 901.

At Thursday’s inaugural SCS State of the District, there was a standing room only crowd from across the 901 community. In my address, I aimed to inform and garner support from community stakeholders and strategic partners as we seek to prioritize resources to fund programs that bring us the HIGHEST return on our investment for student outcomes. I challenged every member of our community — parents, our faith-based leaders, business owners, elected officials — to actively do their part to become  Change Champions . Change Champions are people who serve as fierce advocates on behalf of our children. They come together with a boldness to battle the elements within our society. Change Champions have a passion for positive change, and they support us in removing barriers to our children’s success. Thank you for being excellent examples of Change Champions for our students. Be sure to watch the State of the District recording  here .

As always, thank you for your commitment to our students. I appreciate you! VICTORY is in the CLASSROOM

Sincerely,

Dr. Joris M. Ray, Superintendent
