5 Ways for Financial Advisors to
Step Up Their Game on Social Media

If not letting your business get stale is your goal, then using social media to market your services may be the answer. Social media for financial advisors in many cases is the next frontier.

A financial advisor's marketing strategy has evolved over time along with technology. First, there was authoring books to establish credibility in the field. Then, you had to have a website for your business. And now, a presence on social media is a must if you want to get noticed and be respected.
IBD spoke with several financial advisors to get their view on how to optimally use platforms such as Microsoft (MSFT) unit LinkedIn, Facebook (FB,) Twitter (TWTR) and Alphabet's (GOOGL) YouTube.
According to J.J. Burns, founder and CEO of wealth management firm JJ Burns & Co., there are three types of people when it comes to the use of social media for financial advisors First, there are those who know they need to do something on social media. They then decide to hire a social media aggregator or marketing firm that can post generalized content for them. "And voila, you're out there, you're blogging," he says. But it might not be the most effective use of social media for financial advisors. Read More
The Latest from Washington
by Dani Kehoe, Counsel to NAIFA

By now, we’re all used to legislative roller coaster rides here in DC, but this one is unique. Last week we went from slow progress towards a coronavirus crisis aid bill, to a “no negotiating” order to an issue-by-issue separate bill strategy, back to full package negotiations, to “do a bill even bigger than Congressional Democrats want,” to intense push-back on a big bill from Senate Republicans. And there’s no end in sight. Read More
October Surprise!

by Joseph Chalom, CLU, RICP, LUTCF, LACP

Earlier this month the actions of a few individuals tested the resolve of the NAIFA federation by attempting to sway members of NAIFA-New York to change their professional membership affiliation to a newly-created organization. The process lacked transparency resulting in overwhelming support for NAIFA Nation by the NAIFA-New York members and NAIFA chapters throughout the country.

Ironically, these actions occurred almost simultaneously as NAIFA displayed great member value with the 2020 NAIFA Virtual Performance + Purpose (P+P) Conference. NAIFA did an outstanding job of pivoting the conference from the scheduled live event in Boston to the online event, due to the COVID-19 global pandemic.

You are cordially invited to the Belong Event on Tuesday evening, November 17th, celebrating NAIFA’s 130th birthday. The programing includes the State Flag ceremony, with a twist and a tribute to members plus much more. I encourage you to visit https://belong.naifa.org/the-event for more information and to register.

I want to thank the following members who participated in the September 30th NAIFA-Florida Member Care Call Phone-a-thon: Craig Duncan, George Royal, Terri Seefeldt, Maureen Kirschhofer, Patrick Garrabrant, Ken Gamelin, Claire Gamelin, Cherri Ohmer, and others. We made a real difference in the lives of the members we touched. I encourage you to participate in the next phone-a-thon on November 17th at 9:00 a.m. If you would like to participate in the event, just email idea@naifa-florida.org and put WE CARE in the subject line. Please include your contact information. A member of our team will reach out to you with more information.

“Programs Without Borders” has really enhanced member value for 2020. I encourage you to check out https://naifa-florida.org/events/ to learn about all the excellent programming, including continuing education programs scheduled around the state.
