Vegetation Ordinance Returns to City Council June 17, 2019
The proposed vegetation ordinance will allow the City to adapt to the "new normal" facing our communities: more violent and volatile wildfires. If we want to survive, we have to adapt. The new ordinance will require homes in the Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) to:
- Remove vegetation from 3' around buildings. Succulents are permitted.
- Remove specific vegetation 30' from buildings and 10 feet along property lines and driveways. This includes Acacia, Bamboo, Juniper, Italian Cypress

Presidio Avenue Commences One-Way Traffic This Week
Earlier this year. the City Council authorized conversion of a portion of Presidio Avenue to be a one-way street between the median opening across from the Lumber Yard and Millwood Street, in order to improve traffic circulation, pedestrian safety and facilitate parking.

Public Safety Power Shutoffs - Are You Prepared?
As part of their Community Wildfire Safety Program, PG&E is implementing additional precautionary measures to help reduce the risk of wildfires. For public safety, it may be necessary for them to turn off electricity as a last resort when extreme fire danger conditions are forecasted. Learn more.

Multi-Use Path Safety Concerns and Actions
The City of Mill Valley has become aware of raised concerns regarding safety on the Mill Valley/Sausalito Multi-Use Path. Recent accidents and near misses highlight the need for immediate action to inform cyclists of the safety rules along the path and enhanced and sustained enforcement to ensure that these rules are effective.

Housing Committee - Accepting Applications

Applications are now open to serve on the City of Mill Valley's Housing Advisory Committee as the community's member-at large position. Community members working or residing in Marin County with demonstrated experience and practice in urban planning, housing development, affordable housing policy development and/or implementation of related areas of professional work are encouraged to apply.

On Monday, May 6th, 2019 the entire freshman class of Tamalpais High School in Mill Valley, approximately 400 students, plus 100 teachers and chaperones, spent the day working on a variety of service projects in and around the City of Mill Valley and southern Marin.

Mill Valley Senior Art Show
Now accepting artist applications

Mill Valley Community Center
To participate, artists must be 60 years or older and reside in Mill Valley or Southern Marin. Each may exhibit one piece. This is an open call and all pieces will be accepted for the exhibition, excluding pieces that do not meet the below requirements or include subject matter that is deemed inappropriate for public display. Planning Commission Meeting - April 9, 2019
The Planning Commission considered:
- 550 Miller Avenue - Design Review, Conditional Use Permit, Tentative Subdivision Map, and Tree Permit applications to redevelop the 0.29-acre site with mixed uses. Three, two-story buildings were proposed containing 7 living units and a 981 sq. ft. commercial space that fronts on Miller Avenue. Two affordable housing units are proposed, consistent with the City's Affordable Housing Ordinance. This item was approved by the Planning Commission.
- 288 Edgewood Avenue - The Study Session application proposed to demolish two existing dwelling units totaling 2,273 square feet, and construct one new 3,662 square foot single family home and an attached 476 square foot Accessory Dwelling Unit on the 17,037 square foot lot. The Planning Commission provided feedback and direction to the applicant; the project will return to the Planning Commission with revised plans.

City Council Meeting - April 15, 2019
The City Council:
- Received a presentation from the Marin Municipal Water District regarding the District's new rate and fee proposal.
- Introduced on first reading an ordinance amending Section 8.36.038 "Mill Valley Skate Park Use Regulations/Prohibited Activities" of the Municipal Code to prohibit the use of bicycles and motorized vehicles in the Skate Park.
- Adopted:
- Resolution No. 19-20 accepting the Skate Park Project as complete.
- Resolution No. 19-21 authorizing the City Manager to apply jointly with the County of Marin and other local Marin jurisdictions for SB 2 grant funding under the "Building Jobs and Homes Act" to facilitate Housing Element Programs.
- Resolution No. 19-22 confirming the Council's appointment to the Arts Commission - Coleen Byrne.

Parks and Recreation Meeting - May 1, 2019
The Parks & Recreation Commission heard presentation on:
- Friends of Parks & Recreation Bi-Annual Update to Commission, presented by Jerry Labay, Board Member.
- Golf Course Master Plan Progress Report, presented by consultant Andy Staples.
- Community Center Coffee Pop-Up Project, presented by Lisa Newmark, Employment Programs Director of Integrated Community Services, and Jenny Roger, Arts & Recreation Director.
The Commission approved the addition of a One Tam service emblem to the Miller Avenue Welcome Kiosk and selected Chair Greg Moore to serve on a Bike Pump Track Subcommittee.

The City Council:
- Received an update from the City Manager on the following:
- Yellow School Bus Program
- Depot Café and Bookstore Renovation Project
- Vegetation Management Ordinance - Returning to the City Council on June 17, 2019
- City's 11th Emergency Evacuation Drill - May 18, 2019
- Received an introduction to Derryck Jones, the City's new Building Inspector.
- Received presentations on the following:
- Ramp Metering Project commencing at the Blithedale/101 freeway interchange.
- History Room activities and acceptance of a donation to digitize the Tam High school newspaper.
- CASA Compact and pending housing legislation.
- Confirmed the Mayor's appointments of City Council representatives to the Joint Powers Authorities and Liaison Assignments.
- Authorized an Operating Agreement between the City of Mill Valley and Integrated Community Services for a Community Center Coffee Pop Up.
- Conducted a second reading of an Ordinance amending the Mill Valley Municipal Code Skate Park Regulations.
- Approved a $155,000 budget adjustment advancing funds to award contracts to replace Friends Field in the spring/summer of 2019.
- Adopted the following:
- A Resolution approving an amendment to the Subdivision Improvement Agreement for the 500 Miller Avenue Project revising project timelines.
- A Resolution approving the 550 Miller Avenue Tentative Parcel Map.
- A Resolution delegating the City's representation to Marin Clean Energy to the City of Sausalito's representative.
- A Resolution adopting the 2019/2020 Fiscal Year Funding Eligibility Project List for the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017.

Planning Commission Meeting - May 14, 2019
The Planning Commission meeting agenda will include the following topics:
- 152 W Blithedale Avenue - Design Review proposal to remove the existing 1,651 square foot home and detached garage and construct a 2,962 square foot dwelling with an attached 300 square foot Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) and an attached 450 square foot garage. Three non-heritage trees are proposed for removal.
- 58 Hillcrest Road - The application proposes to construct a new 3,890 square foot, three-story single family home with a detached two-story accessory building comprised of a 624 square foot two-car garage and 569 square foot accessory dwelling unit on an undeveloped 22,734 square foot parcel.
