Dr. Powers Named Teacher of the Year
Fullerton College students recognized English Professor Dr. Miguel Powers as the 2018 Fullerton College Teacher of the Year. The confidential nomination statements from several current and past students revealed a common theme that celebrated Powers for his "life-changing" and innovative teaching methods. He stands out for his empathy for all students and his passion to ignite change beyond the classroom.

Sexual Assault Awareness Month activities continue this week with The Clothesline Project and a Walk in Her Shoes on Tuesday, April 17 on the quad. The Clothesline Project will be presented from 9:30 a.m. - 3 p.m. and the walk will begin at 11:45 a.m.

Kindergartners Explore College and Careers at 23rd Annual KinderCaminata
Nearly 2,000 kindergartners will visit campus on Friday, April 27 for KinderCaminata. The event inspires children to begin thinking about higher education and careers in the early stages of their education.

Transfer Center Workshops - Final Phase of the Fall 2018 Application Cycle
The Transfer Center offers many workshops including the application workshop titled "Admissions Decisions," which is the final workshop in a four-part series. The workshop is intended for students who have applied for fall admissions to the CSU or UC system. The workshop is still available throughout April. RSVP at the Transfer Center. Softball
The Hornets made it five wins in a row on Friday at Santa Ana College beating the Dons 2-1 in a conference clash that went nine innings.
Up Next: Fullerton (19-15 overall, 9-8 OEC) will play at Saddleback College on Wednesday, April 18 at 5 p.m.
Baseball
The baseball team had a hard time with first-place Orange Coast College last week getting swept in all three games they played against the Pirates. The Hornets are now tied for third place with Cypress College in the conference standings with a record of 8-7. Up Next: Fullerton will play at Riverside City College on Tuesday, April 17 at 2 p.m.
Men's Volleyball
Fullerton may have lost at home to Irvine Valley 3-1 last Friday, but they still made the post-season.
Up Next: Fullerton was tabbed as the #5 seed in the regional playoffs and will play at #4 LA Piece College on Friday, April 20 at 7 p.m.
Tennis
As the regular season for tennis comes to an end, Fullerton Athletics would like to thank the following sophomores, Lael Cardinal, Mayumi Okubo, Jose Bernardo Villas Flores, Chris Enciso, and Moises Esteves for playing at Fullerton College. Both the men and women's Hornet squads are busy preparing for the state championship tournaments in Ojai April 26-29.
Women's Track and Field
The Hornets competed at Cerritos College in the Cerritos Invitational on Friday, April 13 for a tune up meet before their conference championships this week. Jordyn Reese gave herself a great race in the 100 meters dashing to the line in 12.90 seconds. Shyleen Ramos ran her best 400-meter race of the season knocking off two seconds with a time of 1:07.80. On the inside of the track, Kim Mataia threw an 11-foot PR performance in the hammer with a launch of 118' 5". Philliz Tu'avao tossed her hammer 105' 1" for her improvement in the same event.
Men's Track and Field
A final tune up meet at Cerritos before the Conference Preliminaries next week at Riverside College. Makyi McIntire placed seventh out of 51 competitors in the 100 and ninth out of 48 in the 200m. Ryan Sheatz ran a solid 800m in 2:03, and attained the SoCal minimum mark requirement. Will McTeggart finished fifth out of 30 competitors in the Long Jump at 6.10m.
McTeggart ranks fourth in the conference for Long Jump and will be looking to move on to the SoCal Regional in May. Mark Fernando will enter the conference meet ranked sixth in the 110m HH.
Up Next: The OEC Preliminaries will be Friday, April 20 at Riverside College.

Brass Ensemble April 18, 7:30 p.m., Wilshire Auditorium
Consisting of trumpet, French horn, trombone, bass trombone, euphonium, tuba and percussion players, this enthusiastic group of intermediate-through-advanced level brass students is well-known for its highly varied, high-quality and enjoyable concerts. The ensemble rehearses and performs music from the Renaissance and classical periods through modern and pop.
Jazz Festival Friday, April 20-April 21 at 8 a.m.
High school jazz bands, combos, vocal jazz, gospel choirs, and a cappella compete in the annual Jazz Festival. A two day event with competitions beginning at 8 a.m. and continue through 6 p.m. in several venues all over campus.
