I Just Wanna Be A SHEEPLE - Baa, Baa, Baa!!!

A Note From Pastor Linda

Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, "I am the Light of the world; those who follow Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life." ~John 8

Dear Fellow Sheeple -

I don't know about you, but Mark and I have been singing
I Just Wanna Be a Sheep! since Sunday! We have talked about what it means to follow Jesus, about how we do it well and not so well. A couple of points from Sunday's message:

SHEEPLE- Combination of people + sheep

Sheeple: People unable to think for themselves. Followers. Lemmers- an utterly foolish or senseless person. Those with no cognitive abilities of their own.

Sheeple: a mass of ignorant, unoriginal humans that herd together and follow mindlessly.

The Christian life teaches us a different message- a different way to follow and a good shepherd to follow. All of us are dependent on the grace of God- indebted to God for this amazing gift of grace.
  • That means that pride is replaced by gratitude.
  • That means that getting and grabbing is replaced by giving and generosity

What does it mean to follow Jesus, the Good Shepherd?
Most people like the comfort of having rules to follow. Rules give us a clear understanding of what is expected. Obey the rules and we feel safe, confident in our actions, and assured of positive outcomes. However, excessive focus on rules(law) can make us arrogant and judgmental. (Sounds like the Pharisees (and they aren't fair, you see) and the Saducess (and they are sad you see!))
Jesus did not give us a rulebook. Instead Jesus said, "Follow me." The important difference between rule keeping and Jesus following, is where we place our focus. Jesus extended an invitation to follow to every single kind of person imaginable - rich people, poor people, people who were spiritual, people who weren't spiritual. He didn't place a bunch of conditions on His offer. He just invited them to follow.
This summer we will explore the early church, opening the book of ACTS- the book of ACTION- to see what we can learn and put into ACTION. Join us- at Hosanna in the GREAT OUTDOORS- beginning in June. Bible study at 8am in the Conference Room- worship at 9:30am in the GREAT OUTDOORS at Hosanna! (In case of rain we move indoors to the GARDEN CHAPEL.)

Baa, baa....
 ~Pastor Linda

NOTE: Summer worship schedule begins on May 27- with ONE WORSHIP SERVICE on the GREAT HALL at 9:30am

We had about a dozen volunteers from the Facilities group and the GET work from 8-12:30 on Sat., doing the spring cleanup work around Hosanna's grounds.  Gardens cleaned and plants cut back, trees trimmed, leaves raked, gutters cleaned, compost bin cleaned out, as well as the parking lot cleaned up, were some of the chores we tackled. A few items are still to be completed, and another day and time will be scheduled with an opportunity to help get Hosanna and the grounds looking beautiful for the upcoming summer outdoor worship services, right on our own lawn!  Thank you again!

at the 10:30am Worship Service

Please fill out a Graduate Recognition form  here. Form needed by May 13th.

When our children were young we brought them to the font to begin a new adventure. Now as they are leaving on yet another journey, we bring them back to the font to be blessed and sent forth.

As we bless each graduate they will receive a special blanket created by our quilters, tied by peers in confirmation and faith formation to remind them that wherever they lay their head, God and the prayers of their home church go with them. Then all family and friends of graduates will be invited to lay hands upon these young adults. To conclude and commemorate this event a class picture will be taken after service.
