Industry News

I have been seeing a lot of indent fractures problems lately. This is where there is a faint lite crack going along the floor. Mostly in a wood substrate or Jo ist substrate installation.

This is because the jo ist are too far apart like 16-24 inches on center and the contractor needs to re brace the under lament support beams to at least 8 inches on center. You see the weight of the  Natural stone is a lot more than Ceramic or Porcelain tile and the stone tiles cannot take any deflection like ceramic or porcelain tiles.

Greg Mowat has been consulting and doing expert witness since I was in high school and Greg and Don Halverson has been mentoring me for many years now.  Hear is a article that Greg wrote many years ago. Many client are wondering why there is not enough information so there properly informed and yet the tile contractors are doing this t o many homes and getting away with it. You ass the consumer should know about these thing and that is one of the reasons that I we do these newsletters.

Yes, this is really technical but please try and soak it up and learn so you can guide your tile installer or General Contractor about this pitfall.   (And yes your GC should know this but don't count on it)

David was just recently in Orlando speaking again at Coverings regarding Glues/Adhesives for the fabrication industry. (we found that most of the contractors were using the wrong  Glues in there outdoor application).
The Best Gift is the Gift of Knowledge

David enjoys sharing his knowledge of natural stones. His next project is to make a video in Spanish for cleaning companies to use to train their staffs on properly cleaning natural stone in homes and businesses.

Here are some links to educational information from the MIA/Natural Stone Institute. Enjoy!
