Trade ambassador says $20b worth of ag exports to be impacted
Things are going to get a little more difficult in the short term, with approximately $20 billion of $140 billion likely to be impacted by retaliatory tariffs, Ambassador Gregg Doud, chief agricultural negotiator for the U.S. Trade Representative, told World Pork Expo attendees this week.
"All of the low hanging fruit have been picked," he said. "These things now that we have to fix are very, very difficult."
There will be retaliation against U.S. agriculture exports and as already has been revealed by China and Mexico tariffs, pork is a main target.
"Let's be frank, the lead tip of the spear in all of this right now is pork," Doud said. Read more

NMPF board renews Cooperatives Working Together
The board of directors of the National Milk Producers Federation (NMPF) has voted to extend funding through 2021 for Cooperatives Working Together (CWT), the farmer-funded export assistance program that assists member cooperatives in exporting dairy products.
CWT's three-year extension comes at a time of growing U.S. milk production, weak global dairy prices and increased worldwide competition. The program enables farmers to fund a private enterprise that increases the competitiveness of U.S. dairy exports. NMPF developed and manages the 16-year-old self-help program. Read more

News and Updates for the 2018 Annual Meeting
Networking Beyond the Session Room
We have scheduled many opportunities at the ADSA Annual Meeting to step out of traditional sessions to network with colleagues while still taking in all of the best science the dairy world has to offer.
The evening social events at ADSA 2018 include two informal sessions on Tuesday-make plans to attend either the Informal Calf Session or the Informal Milk Quality Session from 5:30 to 7:30 pm at the Holiday Inn Knoxville. Both sessions include a cash bar, some finger foods, and great science. The informal sessions are intended to provide a forum for open discussion among those interested in calf and heifer rearing and milk quality, respectively. They present a unique opportunity for researchers and field professionals to exchange ideas and challenge each other on new areas of opportunity for research and progress.
Other opportunities for professional and social interaction include the revamped opening reception on Sunday evening, the ice cream social following the ADSA awards ceremony on Monday, and industry-sponsored events. And once the day is over at the convention center, why not gather a group of old and new friends for dinner-Knoxville has many
award-winning restaurants to suit all budgets and tastes.
Need more information on the 2018 ADSA Annual Meeting?
There is much to do in and around Knoxville. Bring your family, register for tours, and plan time for additional activities while you are there. ADSA recommends visiting the Great Smoky Mountains, checking out Civil War sites, exploring the University of Tennessee campus, and so much more!
We look forward to seeing you in Knoxville!
