The 2019 historic Hammond- Harwood House Secret Garden Tour features private gardens in the Historic District of Annapolis. The area between City Dock and Spa Creek holds architectural gems from Annapolis’ earliest days as well as Victorian-era and 20th-century homes. The gardens range from extremely small to surprisingly large, from formal to cottagelike, and from well-established to quite new. All the gardens epitomize the goals of the home gardener: to have a beautiful space filled with flowers, trees, shrubs, grasses, and other garden elements, a space that is a pleasure to live in and inspirational to work in.

All proceeds from this tour will benefit the 1774 Hammond-Harwood House, an Anglo-Palladian home on Maryland Avenue, and its museum collection of paintings, furniture, and colonial decorative art. This special event is made possible by the owners who graciously open their outdoor areas for this annual fundraiser. Learn more and buy tickets here.

Maryland State Archives
350 Rowe Blvd, Annapolis

Join Mr. Frank Robinson of the Smithsonian Archives and co-author Ms. Debra Naylor for their presentation on The Naylors of Woodborough, or how we turned a pile of research papers into a book. Part history, part genealogy, part narrative, The Naylors of Woodborough, is the culminating work of five researchers who collaborated to publish this Maryland family’s 350-year history using local resources. While it is a local story, the authors have taken pains to place the family in the broader context of American history. What began as a simple exercise in information gathering and sharing grew into a 304-page book, which now serves as the primary published resource for Naylor research in America. Learn more here.
