President's Emerging Global Scholar (PEGS) Student Makes Tremendous Impact on Costa Rican Orphanage

Melissa Lezcano is a freshman at Kennesaw State University majoring in Computer Science. She is an Honors student and a member of the President's Emerging Global Scholars (PEGS) program.

Melissa, along with her fellow PEGS students, traveled to Costa Rica over Spring Break to experience a   developing country 's culture  through service  and  study . She started a GoFundMe  account  to collect donations for  Obras del Espiritu Santo, an orphanage in Costa Rica. The campaign  began to trend  on the GoFundMe website, and Melissa  was able to raise over $1,000  for the orphanage ,   which  will be  allocated to  the construction of a new building to house at-risk teens to  prevent them from  becoming homeless .

Melissa s tated the following about her experience:  " This  experience gave  me the opportunity to contribute to an organization in a powerful and meaningful way . Not everyone who supports an organization financially is given the opportunity to witness the direct impact of their support, but spending time with the children in the orphanage did just that. "
Consider making a difference in a student's life by giving the gift of an Honors College scholarship.

Many Honors students work two jobs, engage in their community, and participate in service activities, while also committing themselves fully to their studies.
