Meet the newest member of the MCA. Skylar France is the friendly voice that has been greeting you since the new year. She started as our practicum student from CDI College where she was attending to achieve her Business Management Degree. She helped in the office immensely, so we decided to keep her!

Please say hi to her next time you are in the area. On that note, we have temporarily moved down the hall to suite #207 while our office is being renovated. No need to change when mailing as we can still access the same mail box.

In April, MCA held a Construction Law course for a small group of contractors. The students enjoyed that the instructor was able to answer all of their real-life questions with good materials and that the course had a good presentation.

MCA also ran a pilot for a new course called Ethical Best Practices for Service Technicians. We had 30 people register and attend this great course. Participants enjoyed sharing stories to keep the course interactive and engaging. A huge thank you to Wolseley Inc. who sponsored this event to keep the costs low for our technicians, as they agree that ethics is vital in our industry!

The recent decision in Canadian Energy Workers' Association v ATCO Electric Ltd. does not change the law with respect to post-incident drug and alcohol testing, but it does help to clarify when an employer may be justified in ordering the employees involved in an incident to undergo drug and alcohol testing. Something that is helpful as the legalization of recreational use of cannabis fast approaches (likely now to be in late summer or early fall).
