NEW IN THE ILLINOIS MEDICAL DISTRICT: JANUARY 2020
FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Greetings, and Happy New Year! I am excited to embark on another year of transformative progress in the nation's second largest urban medical district, and to share in the continued growth and success of our IMD partners and friends.

I'd like to take this opportunity to renew our commitment to establishing the next great innovation district that brings life sciences and technology together , which will help both sectors grow, stay competitive, benefit the City and State—and most notably, improve local health outcomes, particularly in underserved communities on Chicago's West Side.
We are also working to advance new developments for the approximately 31 acres of vacant land in the southern part of the IMD. These new projects will bring new housing, hotels, retail and more within walking distance of the businesses and great institutions that already call the IMD home. But more significantly, they’re prime examples of sustainable economic development that will add jobs, residents and income to the IMD. I wish you all the best in 2020.

IMD PARTNER SPOTLIGHT: AT&T
Late last year, the IMD welcomed several new partners to the Gateway retail corridor, including AT&T. In addition to standard retail and phone plan services, AT&T offers a program for first responders called First Net. First Net is a "communications ecosystem and core being purpose-built exclusively for first responders," and includes preemption capabilities, dedicated network security and other tools to help ensure public safety during planned activities and disaster recovery.
