In observance of Memorial Day, the following will be closed from Saturday, May 25 - Monday, May 27: Westland Historic Village Park, The Westland Friendship Center, The William P. Faust Library, City Hall and the 18th District Court.

** Please note that there will be a one-day trash pick-up delay for the week beginning May 27 due to the observance of Memorial Day.**

The Wayne-Westland Memorial Day Parade - on Sunday, May 26 at 1:00 pm. The Parade will begin at John Glenn High School and will conclude with a Remembrance Ceremony at the Westland Veterans Memorial Garden. Please visit www.cityofwestland.com  or  click  here  for more details.

Scheduled Upcoming Civic Meetings - Residents are invited to attend the upcoming City meetings. Below is a list of the meetings with their date, time and location: 

Commission on Aging Meeting
  • The Commission on Aging Meeting will take place on Tuesday, May 28 at 10:00 am at The Friendship Center, 1119 North Newburgh Road.
Downtown Development Authority Meeting
  • The DDA will hold their monthly meeting on Thursday, May 30 at 8:00 am at Westland City Hall, 36300 Warren Road. To see the meeting agenda, click here.
Historical Commission Meeting
  • The Westland Historical Commission will hold their monthly meeting on Tuesday, May 30 at 7:00 pm at the Westland Historic Village Park, 857 North Wayne Road. If you are interested in joining the Westland Historical Society, please stop by any Saturday from 1:00 - 4:00 pm to pick up a membership form and take a tour of the buildings which includes the Eloise Hospital Museum. Lower Rouge River Greenway Plan Public Open House - on Tuesday, May 28 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at Jefferson Barns Community Vitality Center, 32150 Dorsey Street.  Feel free to drop in any time during these open house hours to view key recommendations of the Plan, share your ideas and learn how to get involved in shaping the future of your community. Teen Summer Reading Program Volunteer Training - on Wednesday, May 29 from 7:15 - 8:30 pm at William P. Faust Public Library, 6123 Central City Parkway, in the  Activity Room.  Registration is open for teens e ntering 9th grade or higher in 2019-2020 and/or at least 14 years old.  High School and College students, we're looking for some enthusiastic and reliable volunteers to help in the Youth Services Department this summer. Volunteers are needed to help check in reading minutes for kids and give out prizes. We also need lots of help with our fun summer programs. Fill out an application (both sides of form ), return it to the Youth Services Desk, and come to one of our training sessions.  Applications will also be available in the library.  Registration for training is optional, but applications should be returned to the Youth Desk before your chosen training date. Please c hoose only ONE Training Session:  Wednesday, May 29, 7:15-8:30 pm,  Monday, June 3, 7:15-8:30 pm or  Thursday, June 6, 7:15-8:30 pm.  Spaces are limited and applying to volunteer does not guarantee placement. The Westland Farmers & Artisans Market -  on  Thursday, May 30  from 3:00 pm - 7:00 pm, 1901 North Carlson. The Arts Center for Enlightenment is pleased to present Meditations on Silence, an exhibition of artwork that explores the theme of silence, with interpretations ranging from somber to energetic. Meditations on Silence will be presented in the Westland City Hall Gallery, 36300 Warren Road through May 30. The exhibition features work that dispels the notion that silence is stagnant. Norwayne Community Gardens Planting Event - on Saturday, June 1. Volunteers are needed (weather permitting) from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm for planting. Bring work gloves and garden tools. Please call 734-713-3711 for more information or click here.
