From the President's Pen

To All LAA Members:

As our 2018-19 season draws to a close, I'd like to thank Carol Cole and Margie Sone for the hard work they've put in to book our ever intriguing monthly guest speakers and demonstrators for our general membership meetings. Carol's lively and informative articles allow us all an insider's view into the background of each and every one of them.

I'd also like to thank Gail Quinn and Joyce Jones, who, along with Carol and Margie, set-up each and every meeting and provide our membership with the meet and greet goodies and libations that we all partake of!

Since May is the time to say goodbye to our Board of Directors and welcome in the new season's, it is particularly bittersweet when some of the Board decide to resign, usually after many years of service.

This year I'd like to thank our four retiring Board members who have put countless hours into ensuring the continued growth and development of the LAA - Nancy Dancu, Treasurer; Martha Hough, Secretary; Pam Reynolds, Membership; and Cathy Sizer, Vice-President. Thank you ladies for your insight, experience, dedication, and the wit you brought to our Association and our Board meetings.

I'm very happy to announce that Nancy Dancu will continue on in her role as LAA's Historian. Watch for coming information in our Newsletter as to where the LAA History will be on display for everyone's perusal.

At our recent May General Membership Meeting, a motion was brought forth by Phyllis Tildes and unanimously passed by the members in attendance to vote into office the following Board of Directors for the LAA's 2019-20 Season:

Betsy Slocum, President
Maria Blanck, Vice-President
Joan DiGiorgio, Treasurer
Dale Koppel, Secretary
Daryl Nicholson, Membership
Nancy Lieb, Communications/Newsletter
Liz McAdams, Communications/Newsletter/Website
Carol Cole, Publicity/Programs
Margie Sone, Programs

Spring Show Results

2019 SPRING SHOW

We are pleased to announce that our recent Spring Show and Silent Auction was an overwhelming success with well over 650 guests in attendance. To date more than 30 pieces entered into the Show have sold as well as 60% of the Silent Auction pieces. For the second year in row, due to the Spring Show, our pocketbook remains in the black which enables us to do more for our members as well as our arts in education programs and the community as a whole!

Thank you to our sponsors for their continued support throughout the years:
SOUND VIEW WEALTH ADVISORS; BLICK'S ART MATERIALS; YATES-ASTRO; CG RENOVATIONS (Clark Gordon); DEBBIE LEECOCK DESIGNS; CLEARWATER POOLS AND SPAS; AND JOHN GLENN LANDSCAPING.

Also, without the commitment and hard work from Nancy Lieb, Liz McAdams, Maria Blanck, Martha Hough, Karen Macek, Marie Tomlinson and their huge staff of volunteers, this year's Show would not have happened!

A BIG ROUND OF APPLAUSE TO EVERYONE CONNECTED TO OUR
2019 SPRING ART SHOW AND SILENT AUCTION

The New LAA Website
NEW LAA WEBSITE

I'm thrilled to announce that the LAA has a brand spanking new website that we all can be extremely proud of. We owe Marie Tomlinson a immense amount of gratitude for her design and implementation skills in bringing our site to life!

Together with Liz McAdams, these two ladies will continue to update and deliver all the information any potential or existing member may need to know about the happenings, past and present, within the LAA.

I encourage each and every one of you to easily navigate through the site at

To access the member roster, you will need the to use the password ART2020.

Please note that the Google Calendar is clickable allowing you to get more information on an event.

For questions or to submit for consideration information that you'd like added to the site, contact Liz McAdams ONLY at mcadams.liz@me.com  Liz will be making all decisions concerning content. Should you send information to someone other than Liz, you will not receive a reply.

Keep in mind that the site is not 100% complete and Marie will be working on it over the summer. We did, however, want to get it out to all members as soon as possible.

When viewing the site from a cellphone, all of the info is there but it is formatted without many of the pictures and graphics. This is due to the small size if the phone screen. The 3 little horizontal lines at the top right corner of the screen is the dropdown menu.

Should any of you have LAA pictures that you think would work well on the site, please forward them to Liz and make sure to put a description of what the picture pertains to.

For the time being, due to security reason, Paypal has been suspended for all LAA payments. Should you have a payment of any sort, please mail or tube it to Betsy Slocum, 2 Palm Glade Ct., Savannah, GA 31411.

The Gallery portion of our old site is still in use while that portion of our new site is still under construction.

LAA CONTRIBUTES $3450 TO
ARTS EDUCATION IN SAVANNAH

The Landings Art Association is pleased to announce their Annual 2019-2020 Penny Day Thompson Grants to Title I Savannah Chatham County Public School elementary art teachers. In its third year, these grants support programs that otherwise would not be possible.

This year, seven $350 grants are being awarded to:
Heather Smith, Butler Elementary: Art Library
Clemencia Liliana Niles, Gould Elementary: Animal Prints
Bethany Norwood, Coastal Empire Montessori: Outdoor Stage and Mural
Heather Sparks, Gadsden Elementary: Art History Library
Julie Hodge, Early Learning Center: Urban Outdoor Art Space and Planters
Laurie Darby, Sarah Mills Hodge Elementary: Butterfly Garden
Melanie Christian, Garden City Elementary: Art Books and Games

In addition to granting $2450 to SCCPSS art teachers, the LAA donated $1000 to the Telfair Museum's excellent Children's Programs.

Through their Community Outreach, the LAA strives to benefit a variety of charitable programs both monetarily and educationally. Over the years recipients include Bethesda Academy, the Parkinson's Foundation, Landings Audubon, Landings Military Family Relief Fund, The Village Library, Golfing for a Cure, SCAD, and Landings Landlovers.

A huge thank you goes out to our behind the scenes Grant Committee: Phyllis Tildes, Martha Hough, Lind Hollingsworth, Shar Trenkamp, and Debbie Redden. Taking into consideration the research, correspondence, and all of the interviews that are required to finally decide on which schools and teachers receive the grant awards, our Committee is to be commended for the thoroughness by which they conduct this selection process.

I hope all of you have a wonderful, safe, and healthy summer. We'll see you back in the fall on Tuesday, September 17 for our 2019-20 season opening general member meeting.
