A Message from our District Administrator

On February 12, Central High School District of Westosha began our journey to define its preferred future based on the hopes and dreams of the co
mmunities it serves. The vehicle for this work will be a collaborative process designed to help us craft a Strategic Plan
that will have significant and long-range impact on how the district carries out its work and achieves its goals for the next three to five years. The first meeting brought 50+ stakeholders (Board of Education members, staff, parents, community members, and students) together for a powerful meeting with tremendous energy, commitment, and excitement. Time was spent honoring the rich traditions and many successes of our district and setting priorities and opportunities for the future students and staff of Westosha Central High School.

The team will meet again on March 16 to investigate and analyze multiple forms of student data. Data will include, but not be limited to: student achievement, school perceptions from staff, parents, and students, career and technical opportunities for students, advanced placement course offerings and student success in the classes, and other data points. The goal of this meeting is to use this data to note celebrations of what is working while setting new goals for the future.
The ultimate product of our work will be a redefined mission and vision of the district along with strategic and measurable goals that will lay the foundation and roadmap for our work in the next few years.
As you have heard me say before, Westosha Central is an amazing place for students; there are many exemplary programs and opportunities for students. It is our goal to build on these great experiences for students and to create new and innovative opportunities for students.
Our goal is to provide a school setting that challenges students to learn, innovate, and become critical thinkers and collaborators. This vision will be our future.

Spring is in the air as we move to March. As the weather warms up (hopefully) opportunity abounds at Westosha Central High School.
March begins our testing season. Please make sure that students get a good night sleep before their tests (ACT, Aspire, Forward, AP) as well as get a good breakfast on the morning of their tests. These tests are one way to check our progress as a school. I know our students will give their best effort for themselves and our school.
March will bring the beginning of the scheduling process. Please know that we do our best to offer and honor the first choices for classes for students. If you have any questions about the scheduling process please reach out to your daughter/son's school counselor.
If your daughter/son is interested in a spring sport, please contact our Athletic/Activities Director Jon Lindh. We know that students that are involved in a club or a sport are more likely to be connected to their school and lead to higher academic achievement.
I am excited as we march toward graduation for the Class of 2020. It has been an honor and pleasure to get to know all of our students, but I am deeply grateful to our seniors and how they have welcomed me with open arms to Central. I am excited to see the growth in all of our students as we move through the second semester.

Gateway National Signing Day
|
|
Thursday, February 20, marked the 5th Annual National Signing Day Event at Gateway Technical College. Seven Westosha Central seniors participated in the event and are looking forward to pursuing their drams at Gateway Technical College.

Infinite Campus Parent Portal
|
|
Parents can login to the Infinite Campus Parent Portal from any device, anywhere, anytime and have immediate access to student attendance, grades, assignments, schedule, lunch balance, transportation and more. Parents can also update their contact information with changes to their email, phone, address, and emergency contact information. Each summer, annual forms and registration materials are also completed through the Parent Portal.

Testing Calendar 2019-2020
|
|
Testing season is upon us. Students will soon be taking state-mandated tests.
Advanced Placement (AP) students will take AP exams in May.
|

LA CHANDELEUR CELEBRATION
Celebrating La Chandeleur on February 2, French students made crêpes and noted that we were halfway from winter to spring!
HOST FAMILIES NEEDED
A group of French teenagers are coming in July to visit our area, and host families are needed for short summer stays of ten days or three weeks. Two students looking for families are Louis, 16, who will be spending his birthday here on July 10, and Louanne, 15, who lives in Brittany France.

INTERNATIONAL CLUB NEWS
¡Feliz dia de San Valentin! International Club recently paired up with French & Spanish Clubs to make valentines for friends, loved ones, and the Memory Care Unit at the Union Grove VA. Spanish 3 students also worked on their pickup lines, hanging some funny ones all around school.

Emergency Closings and Delays

It is the time of year to keep an eye on the weather. There will be times that the weather will affect school and other events and activities. In the event of a school closing or event cancellation, parents will receive an email and phone call from the school. In addition, the information will be broadcast on the following stations:

On March 13, 2020, preliminary summer school schedules with fees will be mailed home along with a confirmation letter indicating that you have been placed in summer school. On May 22, 2020, final summer school schedules will be mailed with confirmation letter and bus routes included.
The dates of this year's summer school will be June 15 through July 23, 2020. Summer school courses run Monday through Friday. Please note that for the Fourth of July holiday weekend, summer school will not be in session July 2 through July 6. Classes will resume July 7, 2020.
Bus transportation will be provided to students enrolled for a full summer school day, from 7:30 a.m. to 12:40 p.m. Instruction will be delivered in multiple formats including face-to-face instruction, blended learning, and computer-based Apex online learning. Full credit courses will run in one session from 7:30 a.m. to 12:40 p.m. Half-credit courses will run in two sessions. Session One is from 7:30 to 10 a.m. and Session Two is from 10:10 a.m. to 12:40 p.m.
Students who are absent for more than three days per course are subject to withdrawal from the summer school program with no refund of fees or awarding of credit for their course. All matters regarding summer school attendance should be addressed with our Summer School Principal, Mr. Leavy.
Summer school offers an excellent opportunity for students to earn credits toward high school graduation, learn in a relaxed environment, and stay connected with their friends during the summer.

While we are making students and parents aware of opportunities, the District does not endorse the activities/opportunities.
