FHS Biology teacher Linda Stocker
received a Recognition of Outstanding Achievement Award
for being named the 2019 Arkansas Biology Teacher of the Year by the National Association of Biology Teachers.
Fayetteville High School crossing guard Glen Chitwood received an Above & Beyond Award from the Education Committee of the Fayetteville Chamber of Commerce for his outstanding work with students.

received Recognition of Outstanding Achievement Awards for winning numerous first place and "Best Of" awards at the 2019 Arkansas Scholastic Press Association convention.
The FHS Film Program received Recognition of Outstanding Achievement Awards for winning the All-Arkansas Award at the 2019 Arkansas Scholastic Press Association and being named to the ASPA Hall of Fame.
FHS-TV received a Recognition of Outstanding Achievement for winning the All-Arkansas Award at the 2019 Arkansas Scholastic Press Association.

Dr. Tammy Tucker Named Associate Superintendent for Administrative Services
The Board voted unanimously to approve Dr. Tammy Tucker as the Associate Superintendent of Administrative Services effective July 1, 2019. She will replace Dr. Larry Ben, who is retiring at the end of the current school year.
Dr. Tucker currently serves as the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum & Instruction for the Cabot School District, a position she has held since July of 2012.

2020 Preliminary Budget Approved
The Board voted 5-0 to approve the Fiscal Year 2019-20 preliminary district budget. The budget includes
- Certified staff receive an average increase of approx. 2% (step & 1% proposed increase)
- Classified staff receive 2.5% (step) increase
- Maintenance and technology reclassification of rotation expenses
- Increased debt payment from the recent bond issue

Construction Projects Approved
The Board voted 5-0 to approve proposed construction projects, including the Softball complex, parking improvements at FHS, and Stadium Drive drainage improvements. Construction will begin June 3.

Bond Sale Approved
The Board voted 5-0 to approve the sale of a maximum of $10 million in construction bonds. Stephens, Inc., will conduct the bond sale for the district.

Counselor Task Force Report
Dr. Steven Weber, Associate Superintendent for Teaching & Learning, presented the work of the Counselor Task Force that was assembled to review the district's K-12 counseling program, analyze the ASCA School Counselor professional standards and competencies, CASEL social and emotional
learning standards, and make program recommendations for Fayetteville Public Schools. The Board will vote on the recommendations at the June Meeting.

Science Curriculum Approved
The Board voted 5-0 to approve the proposed new Science Curriculum developed by a task force of FPS science teachers during the current school year.

Library Recommendations Approved
The Board voted 5-0 to approve the recommendations of the Library Task Force. The Library Task Force reviewed the district's library program, analyzed the new American Association of School Librarians (AASL) Standards, analyzed the Future Ready Librarians Framework, and recommended new materials for Fayetteville Public Schools.

Mental Health Task Force Recommendations
Dr. Larry Ben, Associate Superintendent for Administrative Services, presented the recommendations from the Mental Health Task Force. The Board will vote on the recommendations at the June meeting.

Calendar Changes
Proposed changes to the 2020-2021 traditional and continuous learning calendars were presented by Dr. Larry Ben and Cincy Mathis, representing the Certified Personnel Policy Committee. The Board will vote on the proposed changes at the June meeting.

School Meal Price Changes
Dr. Megan Slocum, Associate Superintendent for Support Services, presented a Federally mandated increase to school breakfast and lunch prices (5 cent increase for student meals). The Board will vote on the proposed changes at the June meeting.

Stipend for National Board Certification
The Board voted 5-0 to approve a one-time $3,000 stipend for teachers who achieve National Board Certification and a one-time $3,000 stipend for those who renew their certification five years later.

Policy Changes
Dr. Larry Ben presented new policies and proposed changes to existing policies:
- Policy 6.7: Patron Complaint and Problem Solving
- Policy 4141.8: Substitute Salary Schedule, Certified & Classified
The Board will vote on the proposed changes at the June meeting.

Possession of Controlled Substances Policy
The Board voted 5-0 to approve proposed changes to Policy 4201: Regulation of Controlled Substances.

Purchases and Procurement Policy
The Board voted 5-0 to approve proposed changes to Policy 3.5: Purchases and Procurement of Commodities and Services. .
