TABC Wins
Columbus Baseball Invitational
TABC Storm Baseball brought their talents to Ohio this week to participate in the annual Columbus Baseball Invitational a.k.a. The Jewish World Series. The team hit the ground running, with easy wins over Valley Torah (Los Angeles), Melvin J. Berman Hebrew Academy (Rockville, Maryland) and Katz Yeshiva High School (Boca Raton). Their first real test came in the semifinal round against the HAFTR Hawks, but they fought their way to a 5-1 win. The team had only an hour to rest for the championship game where they met familiar Yeshiva League rivals, the Frisch Cougars. The Storm were looking to avenge an earlier loss they suffered against Frisch in the regular season, and thanks to big contributions from seniors Aharon Weiden, Josh Goldman, and junior Shlomo Pasternak, as well as clutch batting and pitching from tournament MVP Yechiel Keiser '19, the team was able to knock off their opponent 7-5 and bring the hardware home from the Buckeye State. The team now rides a wave of momentum as they head into the final stretch of their regular season back home.
Three Juniors Win Book Awards
On Wednesday morning Rabbi Adler presented three Book Awards on behalf of two colleges. The Brandeis University Book Award is presented each year to an academically outstanding junior who demonstrates a commitment to civic engagement, community service, political activism, social justice or volunteer work. This year we have the privilege to award the Brandeis Book Award to Benjamin Zinkin.

The second Book Award is the Yeshiva University Torah Umadda Book Award which was awarded to two outstanding juniors who are academically motivated in both secular and Judaic studies.  More importantly, they must be active members of their school and the overall Jewish community.  The recipients must represent the ideals and objectives of Yeshiva University's unique mission. The YU Book Awards were given to Akiva Prager and Ezra Seplowitz.
Lag B'Omer Barbecue
Provides Delicious Celebration
The rain may have hindered our plans to celebrate Lag B'Omer in Votee Park, but we still enjoyed a barbecue complete with burgers, hot dogs, and grilled salami! Even the drizzle which passed through as students and faculty joined together outside couldn't dampen our spirits! In the gym great games of basketball were being played, while outside games of frisbee, running bases, Spikeball and bean bag tosses had everyone enjoying the camaraderie of a TABC Lag B'Omer. (Stay tuned for the re-scheduled day at Votee next week!) For more photos, click here.

TABC Student Published
One of the AP American History students at TABC has recently had an essay published in a college publication.  The Hofstra University: Peter S. Kalikow Center for the Study of the American Presidency annually publishes a book of essays by students in AP high school classes for American History or Government. This year's topics revolved around the Trump presidency. Ezra Baron '20 wrote an essay on the question: "How Will the Trump Presidency Shape the Future of American Politics, the Republican Party and United States Policymaking at Home and Abroad?"
TABC Students Publish
Storm Currents  and
Blue & Gold Literary Magazine
Two new literary publications have appeared at TABC this year, Storm Currents and The Blue and Gold Literary Magazine. Both have been generated, written, and produced primarily by members of the sophomore class, which is proving itself remarkable for its talent, ingenuity, and organizational abilities.

Storm Currents, an online periodical published several times a year, features essays presenting both sides of selected controversial issues both inside and outside TABC. Liev Markovich, the founding Editor-in-Chief, envisioned the e-magazine as a publication reflecting various viewpoints on topics of interest and importance to TABC students. Subjects discussed thus far in Storm Currents range from political and social issues to school events and activities. Additional editors and contributors include Executive Editors Avi Tepler, Eitan Mermelstein and Noam Barenholtz, as well as Contributing Editors Benji Grin, Ezra Ratner, Ezra Luber and Levi Langer. To access Storm Currents, click here.

The Blue and Gold Literary Magazine is an annual printed magazine containing essays, short fiction, art, and photography created and produced by TABC students. Staff includes Editors-in-Chief Harry Meister and Jake Resnick; Design Editor Jacob Tennenbaum; Photography Editor Noah Jawetz; Editorial Board members Elisha Alter, David Berger, Binyamin Davis, Daniel Dresdner, Ezra Luber, David Rabbani, Ezra Ratner, Ari Smith, and Elan Whitehead; and photographers Yehuda Goldman, Noah Jawetz, and Jake Resnick. If you would like a copy, please contact Mrs. Enid Goldberg, Blue and Gold adviser.
Rabbi Jachter's Y6 & Y7 Shiurim Visit Kof-K Kashrut Offices
It was a fabulous event on Wednesday morning when Rabbi Jachter's Y6 and Y7 Mishna students packed into the conference room of the headquarters of the Kof-K Kashrut organization, located only two blocks from TABC!

The Senter family presented an excellent program for our students. Rabbi Zecharia Senter, the legendary founder of the Kof-K, described the early days of the Kof-K Organization.  He described the intense negotiations with Howard Johnson's ice cream, the first major account landed by the Kof-K. It was a lesson in both Torah and the art of collaboration to create a win-win situation for both sides.

Rabbi Yehuda Rosenbaum followed with an explanation of the need for kashrut certification and not simply relying on a reading of the ingredients. He noted, among other points, how natural flavorings can include solidly non-kosher ingredients, such as the blood of ants, and extracts from cats and beavers.

Rabbi Danny Senter followed by discussing some of the cutting edge issues in kashrut such as genetically generated meat as to its status as kosher and meat. Students came to appreciate the complexities and worldwide reach necessary for a contemporary kashrut organization to function.

The visit was completed with a demonstration of the extent of insect infestation of typical vegetables and the need to clean them properly to clear them of insects.

Rabbi Jachter expresses his great gratitude to the Senter and Rosenbaum families for creating a star-studded event. The on-site visit is a perfect culmination of his post-Pesach focus on the laws of kashrut based on the mishnayot of Masechet Avoda Zara.
STORM Report
After a very  successful regular season, TABC captured the number two seed overall in the league which granted them a first round bye. Coming off the bye, there was no rust to be seen. The team had their work cut out for them, missing some very important players, and the first quarter ended scoreless with neither side able to break through. Thanks to goals from sophomore captains Benji Grin and Jacob Dahan in the second quarter, TABC held a tight 2-1 lead going into the half-time break. In the second half, Grin added 4 more goals to his tally, along with goals by Eliyah Gershon and Baruch Shmukler-Karpov. Westchester had very few opportunities on net and when they did, sophomore Saadya Levitt made himself big in goal. With this win, TABC will now face Frisch in the finals. The two teams traded victories on each other's home courts during the regular season. Now they meet on neutral territory with much at stake. Stay tuned and, of course, LET'S-GO-STORM!
