October 4th is the Feast Day of Saint Francis. On this day we celebrate Saint Francis of Assisi and his love for all creatures. Typically we honor our school's patron saint with a festive Blessing of the Animals event held on campus with all of your pets and special animal guests in attendance. Unfortunately, this year, that just isn't possible. That doesn't mean that we can't find new and different ways to come together, honor Saint Francis, and bless our pets. We have reimagined how we do Stations of the Cross, Graduation, and even a regular school day. We can make the Feast Day of Saint Francis happen too!
Our pets hold a special place in our hearts because of the joy and the comfort they provide. It brings us pleasure to recognize the ways our animals make life better and provide them with a blessing. We are incredibly thankful to have a unique virtual blessing led by Father Fred this year. We ask that everyone listen attentively to the prayer bestowed upon our animals.
Take a moment to gather as a family with your pets tomorrow. Spend some time acknowledging all the ways your pets bring happiness and a sense of acceptance to your lives. Remember good Saint Francis who loved all of God's creatures. Ask that he watch over your pets and keep your companions safe and healthy. Think of ways to follow his example of treating every living thing with kindness. Then, watch Father Fred's recorded blessing and share in the celebration.
