The Item Newsletter, Issue #6, November 1, 2020

Dear HW Families,

Friday's Halloween celebrations were a fantastic way to end another full week of learning! The HW Campus was looking very happy and festive with everyone's imaginative costumes! The PTO is so thankful to the HW Community: our amazing principal, teachers and room parents for working together to make the day so fun for our kiddos.

We are off to an amazing and exciting November...starting with Spirit Day this Friday! It's the perfect time to show off your Racoon Pride on or off campus with your new spirit wear! And if by chance you missed the first sale, we will be running a second sale. Stay tuned for details!

It's also time to dust off your passports: World Travelers is BACK! On November 10, 11 and 12, be prepared to get whisked away to Egypt! You will be impressed with the reimagined World Travelers in it's all new, 3-day, virtual format. Your children will not want to miss this lunchtime learning excursion.

Next up, the week of November 16-20 our beloved HW BOOK FAIR returns!  The new virtual Book Fair will open up a world of possibilities; instead of being limited to the on-site offerings, there will so many more titles to choose from online!  We encourage you to share the Book Fair Website with grandparents and family for holiday gift giving. There will also be special links for "gifting" books to a teacher from their wish list. Can't wait for you to explore this year's Book Fair!

Lastly, as we begin the month of November, let's not wait until the fourth Thursday to show gratitude. Planting seeds of thanks and hope now will make this season's harvest all the more bountiful.

Stay positive, be kind and rock that Raccoon Pride!

Hubbard Woods Virtual Book Fair Coming Soon!

The Hubbard Woods Book Fair will be held virtually November 16-20Shop anytime, anywhere that week from Anderson's Book Fair Company website, and the books will be mailed to your home. Families will also be able to support classrooms by purchasing Teacher Wish List books, which will be delivered directly to teachers. Last year, we raised over $8,000 to stock the RC with new books.

While the Book Fair is being reimagined this year, it is still a wonderful opportunity to purchase books and gifts, while supporting the Hubbard Woods Resource Center.  Stay tuned for more details about the Book Fair, including dress-up opportunities during Literary Spirit Week!
Please Review Safety Guidelines for the Car Lines!

With cold weather season here, more students are traveling to and from school by car. PLEASE take time to review the Drop Off/Pick Up GuidelinesFor the safety of our children, policies must be followed.
  • Pull as far forward as you can in the car line
  • DO NOT block street access, there must be a lane for vehicles to pass through
  • There is no access to either the Chatfield or Laurel pick up line from Burr Ave
  • Drivers- STAY IN YOUR CAR, staff will assist with doors (if you want to take your child out of the car, please park on one of the surrounding blocks-outside of the carline)
  • Children MUST enter/exit cars on school side
Thank you for your cooperation!
A Reminder to Social Distance and Wear Masks

As weather gets colder, please remember to maintain social distance.

Please remember that clusters of children or adults should not gather, as we need to be 6 feet socially distanced at ALL times, and keep following our processes to enter our school safely.

Masks must be worn on campus while outdoors when you arrive. What may seem to be a harmless "quick" break in practice can cause unintended quarantines, impacting many.

Thank you for understanding our collective responsibility!
