Pride: Past, Present, Future
presented by Members of UUCH

June is widely regarded as LGBTQ Pride Month. For many LGBTQ individuals, the notion of pride is wrapped-up in personal identity, a search for community, acceptance of self, and acceptance from loved ones.

UUCH prides itself on being a welcoming congregation and was one of the first UU churches to achieve such a designation over 20 years ago. In the years since, our congregation has continued to embrace people of all genders and sexual orientations, but we have not always been such a welcoming congregation.

Join members of UUCH, including members of Interweave and the Worship Committee, as we investigate UUCH's past, present, and potential future efforts to address LGBTQ inclusion, as well as share our own stories of pride, struggle, and acceptance.
This Sunday in Children and
Youth Religious Education (C Y RE)
Summer Religious Education continues with ART FOR THE FUN OF IT led by Lynda Lamitie, Betsy Fletcher, and Theresa Miller.

For more information, contact Erin Reid, Director of Religious Education, or Audrey Fox, CYRE Chair.
"Open Ears Listening Campaign"
Your Inputs Are Needed!

UUCH is partnering with Faith In Action Alabama (FIAA) to develop a faith-based action plan to be presented to the next Alabama governor in January 2019. To develop this action plan, FIAA has initiated the Open Ears Listening Campaign to obtain input from Alabama residents on what we feel are the most pressing local and statewide concerns facing the people of Alabama.

UUCH will be hosting opportunities for you to participate and have your voices be heard. Your answers to the seven Listening Campaign questions will be consolidated and forwarded to FIAA. The listening campaign sessions at UUCH will be held at the following times:

-   Sunday, June 17th, at 9:30 am
-   Sunday, June 24th, at 12:30 pm

The listening sessions will be held in the Adult Religious Education room and should last less than an hour.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact Michelle Clark, Brad Korb, or Gail Williams.

Opportunity to Create
with the UUCH Choir

We are building new stoles to have ready for the choir's first performance of the 2018/19 year, mid-September.

Our stole making is happening on Wednesday evenings 7:00-9:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. The expectation is to have the weeks of June to complete thirty Musical Note/Rainbow choir stoles. In July, we will continue with thirty Celestial/Formal black stoles.

Please, feel welcome to attend. There is cutting, ironing, pinning and sewing, as well as GREAT company and air conditioning. Whoop Whoop!

Needed : sewing machines, good cutting scissors, snipping scissors for those delicate curves

Provided : patterns, pins, tailors chalk, how to directions, and plenty of good laughs.

Many thanks for the loan of irons, ironing boards, extension cords, and cutting boards.

Contact Rachael Scheib at 973-885-2504 for more information.

Choir rehearsals will resume mid-August.
Steady Steps - Balance in Sitting, Standing, and Walking

Join us for a fun class designed to help improve balance in sitting or walking. This easy class will help you take steps to improve your balance. With better balance, you will be safer and more efficient in your daily activities.

Come as you are, no need for exercise clothes. We will meet at 11:00 a.m. every Wednesday in June and finish in time to go to lunch. Everyone is welcome.

The class will be taught by Sally Locklear. For more information, contact Nancy Finley, Chair Adult Religious Education, at adult.re@uuch.org.

The Knit Wits

The next Knit Wits meeting will be held on Friday, June 29th, 6:00 p.m., at Jefflyn's home in southeast Huntsville. This group is part of the Care Committee. Skill at knitting is NOT required!

The Knit Wits make Care Shawls for church members undergoing health challenges, baby blankets for our newborns, and take on a variety of other projects, such as the Yarn-Bombing on the playground fence. You are welcome to join the group. If you wish to learn to knit or crochet, there are good and patient teachers who would love to help you learn.

Hope you can join us for a relaxing evening with friends. Email Barbara Hitt at
care.chair@uuch.org for more information.
