The first steps in the installation of the new concrete roadway on S. Old Woodward (south of Maple Rd.) was the major news as another week of the reconstruction of Old Woodward comes to a close on Saturday (6-16-18).
In addition to the ongoing installation of the new concrete on South Old Woodward, crews completed the asphalt extensions on the east and west ends of Maple on Friday (6-15-18). Contractors will wrap-up the work week on Saturday when they begin excavating for the new trees on Maple. There will be no work on Sunday (6-17-18) as crews will celebrate Father's Day with their families.
Looking ahead to next week, concrete paving is expected to continue with the installation of the center left turn lane as part of the new roadway on S. Old Woodward. Also, contractors are anticipating that they'll finish the replacement of the tired pavement at the intersection of Brown St. and S. Old Woodward by the end of the week.
With a targeted completion date of early August, the underground infrastructure improvements and the above ground enhancements on Old Woodward will result in a modernized downtown core that City residents, merchants, stakeholders and visitors will be proud of and enjoy for decades to come. In the meantime, the public is encouraged to visit downtown and see the transformation first-hand while supporting city merchants. As a reminder, free parking in all City parking structures is now available on weekends (Saturday and Sunday) along with four, two-hour free valet parking stands strategically located near the construction zone.
